I loved it, 50's was a different time, was my families first holiday apart from my dads all inclusive 6 year one a few years earlier.

Took my youngest grandkids there a few years ago they loved the amusement park on the front and mini golf, nor to mention being harrased by seagulls outside MacDonalds.

The seafront is absolutely lovely now, they have done so well with it
The town though is attrocious, every shop is a brick cheapo shop and the people wandering round are not good
Sort that out and it could be a very decent place to live

Went there a few years ago and beach area is really nice
Other parts… less so, but actually quite standard for most towns

It's one of the most deprived towns in Britain.

But the beach in front of the Martello Tower is incredible and one of the best beaches in the country

I think they were built as defence against Napoleon invasion.

Loads around the coast of Ireland too. The idea is that you can see the other towers in either direction I believe.
