It is all relative. CL spots are and always were a pipe dream for WestHam IMO. When their fans were eyeing the move to their new stadium and the porn barons were whispering sweet nothings in their ears the thoughts of mid-table moyescurity would not have been contemplated. Now that doesn't look so bad. The club is a mess from top to bottom and going down would be nothing short of a disaster in that stadium of all places. If I was a hammer I would gladly take a few years of stability over the pantomime show that is going on now on and off the pitch.
In general, hard to argue.
The issue I take is that a) They have clearly stated higher ambitions and b) The mess they are in is of their own making.
Given that, I dont see how mid table mediocrity could be success for them.
Even if, for the fans, it would be a godsend right now (until they got there and decided they should really be winning the world cup...)
