Cann we make the top 14 or 15?

This will be the first Christmas since 2008 that we’ll be in the lower half of the league, might need to finish season as strongly as we started the last to secure that top 4 finish.

As I've said multiple times on here since the early days of the season, everything points to us finishing with one of our lowest points total and league placings in a quarter of a century. Our mid-season placement and points total is simply further evidence of that.

I don’t think we’re in a relegation fight or anything close to one. Yes, our results have been poor but we’re still ten points clear of relegation zone I think? And ten points is a lot to make up when you’re a team that only has 14 points from 19 matches (Leicester). We will likely finish around 8th after everything settles.

This. We're facing an injury crisis of epic proportions and have been in poor form for a while, but are still closer to fifth place than the relegation zone.

Its good to see that some can see further then all the overeactions that have been hitting the last few days.

I don't know. Getting relegated sounds quite exotic to me. Not having to play the same bloody teams every year. Being able to go to places like Plymouth and Rotherham. Signing players like Higgingbotham, Shropley, Claridge and McAverage. A real rebuild for once. Less tourists at WHL. Playing in a league we could actually win! We get a trophy if we win, right? Get that monkey off our back. Would be just our luck to finish second, or better yet, lose the playoff final to Barnsley.

"Championship runners up, you'll never sing that!"

😉

Not that i believe we will be relegated but to be honest i was a ST holder when we were relegated back in 77 and saw every game in the lower division[except Hull away] It was a eye opener to travel to all the grounds and see how the other half lived.

Whenever I'm over to see us play, I try to catch a lower league game as well. I actually love checking out these smaller grounds and seeing the support their getting. Feels a bit more like it used to be, not this mega entertainment show that it seems to be now. Not gonna go all things were so much better back in the day, because it wasn't, but there's something very charming and appealing with matches at the smaller grounds with the lesser teams. The actual football is obviously quite bad though, but fun none the less.

What you say is spot on, however i visited a lot of brickholes that season and it really opened my eyes to see what fans of lower clubs have put up with.

I'm the same, I love going to some games as a neutral, mainly Championship games though. Over the years I've been to Charlton, QPR, the old Bolton ground (Burnden Park), Millwall, Fulham, Kennilworth Road, Ashton Gate, etc. Plus the Boleyn Ground :D

I was born in Fulham and that was my first ground/game i went to, the opposition were Spurs and once i saw Greaves and co they became my team forever.

But it's also they haven't lost that connection, that support for their club (regardless of owners/success/whatever), fans in lower league don't turn up to be quiet and/or boo their team (regularly)

Top level football is all now around expectations and lording brick over others (and yes, banter has always been part of the game), like I will never get City & Chelsea fans who think their modern success is something to be proud of.

I don't think we are, but if we continue to pick up points at the current rate, it only takes one of the bottom 3 to start getting a run together and it's an awkward look over the shoulder.

Was that what we expected this season?

It's not

- Leicester draw (- 2 points), Brighton A (-2 points, a draw acceptable), Palace A (-2 points, a draw acceptable), Ipswich (-3 points), Fulham (-2 points), Bournemouth A (-2 points, a draw acceptable), Wolves (-2 points) = 15 points dropped

- That's not being crazy and saying we should have won at Forest Away or won at Brighton (in that game, we should have), or beat/draw Liverpool, Chelsea & Scum
- +15 points we would be fudging 2nd, 2nd!!!

Lets take that at assume you would get 2 bad results out of those 7 games on any normal season, if I minus 5 points, it's still +10 points and 5th position.

It's really hard to see reasoning that this squad actually should be outside top 8 now or at end of season

Fulham haven’t lost a London derby since February and are a much much better team than people wanna give them credit for
Then you have Bournemouth who also gave great howl form having beaten Arsenal and city just before beating us, so again, much harder than people think (a draw would be par as you say)
I’ve said for a while we should be somewhere between 5/6 points more, but we ain’t
It is what it is on that front

I quite like a bit of a brick hole these days (think it's the contrast). As long as I can get a drink (hot or cold), some scran (if desperate), maybe get undercover if the weather turns nasty ...then all good.

I think I'm correct in saying that we are running at 1pt a game since (and including) the loss at Selhurst.

Prediction table

Any idea what they are basing the predictions on?
I mean utd who have 19 point atm are to pick up another 31 points.
Whereas forest who are on 37 atm will only pick up 23.
Not sure I'd trust that model.
Assuming I'm reading it right of course.

From the site
  • Opta’s League Prediction model estimates the likelihood of teams finishing in each position in the competition. We can therefore see how successful a team’s season is likely to be, whether it’s their relegation or title chances.
  • The model estimates the probability of each match outcome (win, draw or loss) by using betting market odds and the Opta Power Rankings. The odds and rankings are based on historical and recent team performances.
  • The model considers the strength of opponents by using these match outcome probabilities and simulates the remaining fixtures in the competition thousands of times. By analysing the outcome of each of these simulations, the model can see how often teams finished in each league position to create our final predictions.
Honestly I'd suspect United would take 12th right now if offered, and same for City with 4th.

So it's from where punters are putting their money? Or where they are expected to be putting their money at the time of fixture?
Utd have 1 win the last 5 in the league, forest 4 wins in the last 5 in the league, and that's taken from their table, do you expect people to just at their headline and accept it?
People are stupid, but they're not that stupid. You wouldn't money on utd beating anyone just now.
