Cann we avoid the drop?

The worrying thing is that we appear to lack the physical fight and resilience for a scrappy fight. But we also play far too open so will get picked off by higher level teams. So whilst I don’t think we are in a relegation fight, if we lose more matches there is the possibility that we could be pulled into one.

I really think people need to wake up. We are in a relegation fight. Staying up needs to be our absolute number one priority as a club. We just got absolutely murdered by Everton. One of the worst teams in the division. We will be playing Son or Werner upfront in a tactic designed to have a focal point and we will be playing 18 year old midfielders at CB. We are being managed by someone with zero experience of a top division and the requirements to manage at this level. All of our coaching staff are equally inexperienced. If people are sat there thinking those 8 points can't evaporate rapidly starting against Leicester....they're in for a rude awakening....

So 6 wins for 40 points, where are we getting those?
We simply have to beat Leicester as we have some really tough games coming. Lose or draw on Sunday and we will be lucky to stay up.

Agreed. Too early to be talking about being in a relegation fight, but if course we could end up in one.

We have a lot of really good footballers coming back from injuries in the next weeks/month.

At least you and I can see that, I'm sure there are people on here who still think Ange is marvellous and we will win the league

I think everyone here can see that we're in a crisis situation. I think everyone here can see the table and count to eight.

We're all Spurs fans, we're quite used to disappointment and frustration. I've been on this board for a lot of years and can't remember anyone ever saying "well it can't get any worse than this" - we all know, things can always get worse. And if things get worse now that dotted line 8 points down will get closer.

We do also use words differently. To me a relegation fight is not how I would describe our current situation. You do, that's fine, we use words differently. That doesn't mean most people on here can't see, are deluded or stupid.

I echo this sentiment. I don’t know what the parameters of being ‘in a relegation fight’ are but as I wait above whilst we are in a poor position I don’t quite have us as having yet been pulled into a relegation fight. I can understand that some see relegation as plausible and so describe our position as being in a relegation fight but I feel that we are just outside of trouble BUT could be pulled into it IF form doesn’t improve.

I have full confidence that we will beat Leicester on Sunday. If we don’t and results elsewhere also go against us then I may reconsider my position but for now I hold firm that we are not in a relegation fight.

Remaining fixtures:

Leicester H *
Brentford A
Man U H *
Ipswich A
Emirates Marketing Project H
Bournemouth H

Fulham A
Chelsea A
Southampton H *
Wolves A
Forest H
Liverpool A
West Ham A
Crystal Palace H *
Aston Villa A
Brighton H

Let's say we get nothing from the away games (based on recent results). We've got four home 6-pointers against clubs around us (*) that we have to win. That puts us on 36 points, plus any points picked up from anywhere else if we don't win one of those (We need 0.75ppg compared to our current 1.1ppg). Wolves/Ipswich (currently on 0.73ppg) will both need more than 20 points to beat 36 points, so 6 wins/3 draws, or 5 wins/6 draws (they've not managed that from more than half a season), from 16 games (1.3ppg).

No one knows what the parameters are for that. It's not exactly a well defined expression.

I actually like the description from Kompakted. "Staying up needs to be our absolute number one priority as a club."

When that is true we're in a relegation fight imo. When we rest/rotate players out in the cups because we have to get points in the league to avoid relegation. When long term planning, player development, next season, style of play - everything takes a backseat to our absolute number one priority, staying up. Then, for me, we're in a relegation fight.

Or to put it differently. If we're in a relegation fight right now surely we should rotate very heavily for the EL fixture this week. Play the kids if we have to. Getting out of the EL group stages surely isn't worth risking relegation over. Our absolute number one priority.
