My list so far. If I had to pick one it would be RATM. Not my favourite on the list but in terms of creating, defining and kicking the living brick out of the metal genre and indeed any genre, I don't think it can be beat (in that decade at least)
Special mention for Megadeth, Countdown to Extinction. Listening to the lyrics now, it's scary how accurately Dave Mustaine predicted the state of the planet on so many levels.
