Ben Davies

Spurs star set for lengthy injury absence which causes problem for new manager
Tottenham defender Ben Davies has been ruled out for between four to six weeks with the hamstring injury he suffered against Southampton, football.london understands.

The Welshman was forced off before half-time in Spurs' 3-3 draw at St Mary's on Saturday and now football.london understands the damage to his hamstring could take up to six weeks to heal. That would mean Davies would not be available until May for the final games of the season if his recovery remains on track.

The 29-year-old, who was named as Wales vice-captain last week before having to pull out of their latest squad, has become a mainstay under Antonio Conte this season. He has started 21 of Spurs' 28 Premier League matches and come off the bench in another four and has made 37 appearances in total for the club this season.

Davies has also had an impact as a left wing-back after having previously played on the left of the back three for much of the season and his form down the flank has kept Ivan Perisic out of the starting line-up.

Another problem that Spurs could face with Davies' injury is that with Conte's time at the club expected to come to an end the next manager could revert the team back to using a back four. Unfortunately Davies was the club's only fit left-back, with Ryan Sessegnon currently recovering from his own hamstring injury and Perisic a wing-back or winger rather than a left-back.

Any potential new manager could be forced to switch the right-sided Emerson Royal over to the other flank or play left-footed centre-back Clement Lenglet as a left-back.

We're going to miss him. Emerson on the left might not be the worst option.

Jesus, i know all clubs get injurys but we seem to have had more then our fair share this season.:(

Hindsight is always a bit of cheap card

- But in January on RWB we had Emerson (who's form was improving and obviously Conte saw something in training), Doherty who could play both sides and a promising youngster in Spence, on LWB we had a pair of struggling LWB's with Sess/Perisic
- The manager insisted we get rid of the player that could play on both sides, the promising young player and we dump our entire budget on a RWB

While I think Porro will be a good buy for us (provided we stay 3 atb), it looks like a brick call, we could have spent the £40M+ on a CB, could have had Doherty cover both sides, and still had more attacking (if we were actually willing to give Spence some development time)

shame as he was going to be a key option down the left for the rest of the season - we may get him for the last 3-4 games now I guess.

Well you hit the tickle my balls with a feather with the Hindsight bit.:)

In general, it can be harder to buy in January so maybe the club decided to just wait until the summer to get a top-choice target instead of another stop-gap like Lenglet. I think Porro was a good move as who knows, perhaps some other club would've been in for him this summer. In that case, we would've said the same thing about hindsight and retrospect (we should've gone for him in January instead of waiting around).

It's not exactly rocket science is it

Davies has the physique of a centre back and is asked to bomb it up and down the wing for a few games until he goes pop

Did you see the sprints Kane was putting in last night? His hamstrings were absolutely stretched to the limit, he was going to the red line to secure the victory with 10 men.

I'm amazed he made it through, but surely playing every game will soon lead to a strain.

He was excellent last night, and yes, I thought the same. He gave every last ounce to help secure that victory.

And news breaking this morning is that Royal limped off last night as well. You couldn't make this sh#t up. People scoff at 'Are we cursed?' I really am starting to wonder.

Then to add to it all, I read that his picked up a knock from the barrage of fouls he and Saka were subject to. If true, he should not even be on the bench tonight, let alone starting
