Bale. Could we? Would we? Should we?

Assuming we sign him on loan for the year, I'm guess we'll them try to sign him permanently for say £5m - £10m next summer, or have that option pre-agreed now. His contract runs til summer 2022
I’m trying to think what deal could be done.

year loan and Madrid pay half - Madrid save 15m a year we get a potentially top player for 15m a year.
If he flops we are fine but Madrid are then stuck with him and will be paying 30m for his final year.
If he is successful I can’t see a situation where we’d pay a fee and we’d be able to get anywhere near his former wages. If anything we’d need Madrid to pay half His wages for the following year again and give him the transfer fee to cover the other half of his wages in the second year of the contract. By the same token if we don’t have an option and he tears it up other clubs may well get closer to his original wages.

there's definitely going to be the equivalent of a broken fax machine when this deal collapses!
Broadband outage/ Burst water main / Dog ate the agreement etc.

Essentially, we'd like him to make quite an impact but not enough of one to make him unaffordable in year two, or to demoralise any one of Son, Moura or Bergwjin too much. Whatever, there's no way to pretend that this is a strategic masterstroke. It's a necessary short-term move by a short-termist manager and a beleagured owner. In those terms, absolutely welcome and lovely, of course.

soooo, we "loaned" out Bale to Real Madrid for a brickload of money, and now the loan is terminated and he returns home, and Real Madrid must pay some more for the wear and tear? :D

Well, if we are simply covering half his wages for the rest of his contract, it saves Real £30 million. So not chicken feed for them. And it removes him from their sight which appears to be greatly desired.

There's ITK's with close knowledge (or trying to get in there first with their guesses) saying this morning that it is done.

Yes but also means we are gambling 30m on him. A 2 year deal makes sense for Real but I wasn’t sure Levy would want to sink so much into it in case he doesn’t show the motivation or ability he used to have.

Levy shouldn't.
But I hope Levy will not be taken In by all the dewy-eyed nostalgia surrounding Bale's return.
If Gareth can do a job then fine but If Jose swaps him for Dele to prove what a powerful hombre he is, we have problems.

even if he’s only half the player we sold, he’ll still be the best player in the PL

I’m sure he won’t be as quick, but he’s been training at the biggest club in the world for 6 years, he’s going to be smarter, fitter and better technically

not to mention the other “preparation” players get in Spain
