We did exactly what we needed to do, stop their midfield and frustrate them at every opportunity, that was our only option with the limited creative choices we had. We made it a messy game and despite their possession they didn't create any clear cut chances. Not how I want us to play but definitely a case of the ends justify the means.

In a one-off match, absolutely. We were the beneficiaries of some very poor attacking play from Utd. Some poor finishing as well in a couple of very key moments.

We can't really judge progress until we continue the journey though. We won't know for a while whether what happened on Weds is changing a fan belief system.

It is interesting to me that earlier in the season Ange was dismissive of the importance of winning a cup as a panacea for all our ills, but is now in the "its a springboard" camp.

I think he learned how fragile our fanbase is (was). We absolutely needed that trophy. It gives us some clear air. The rebuild has started, now it can move at pace.

I think you're right and levy set the targets, but I think Poch agreed with them, hence the bond between them.
When Poch wanted to tweak the target the relationship deteriorated, like Jose Poch couldn't convince levy and it all fell apart.
Where it gets interesting for me is who or what convinced levy to change the targets in January.
He has learnt a life lesson?
Has someone or some group been able to do what neither Poch or Jose could?
Or is someone else making those calls?

The answers to that could be more important than what happens with the manager.

It's about attainable targets...and in January the UEFA cup was by far and away the most attainable target.
....and that applied to the business side of the club as well as the football side.

I probably am .
It's all speculation isn't it, we try and piece together the snippets along with what we see to make sense of it, but we don't really know.

Indeed. It's probably our nonsensical love and longing for this club that makes us constantly in consumption mode of any little morsel to feed into the mental gymnastics machine. (If only we were all as attentive in every subject at school).

Furthermore, that can have a negative effect on our overall experience, especially if we get into a spiral (akin to the trauma Steff talks about). Which tbh is probably just fed by the backdrop to not 'winning'

Yeah, you are right. I think I've already written somewhere else this morning that the player's mindshare is in a great place.

I was more talking to this though - "The question is, can we -as supporters- change OUR ways? Can people get beyond their pre-baked fears? Can people understand that this is a new era? Can we no longer embrace fear?"

On the flip side...these last few days....it's all been gravy

Talking to one of my Celtic supporting mates pre game about the not winning, I always take the line of you don't support spurs because of the trophies, because you're going to be disappointed if you do.
Cuts their legs off.
But they don't get it, all these supporters are bloated on success, so much that it almost means nothing to them.
City, utd, Chelsea, Liverpool and the OF fans I've had to deal with for decades don't understand what this means to us.
I wouldn't never give up this feeling, it's special, each one of our trophy wins since the '81 Cup final means something to me.
They don't all meld into one, they don't get lost in clutter of wins, they are unique and individual.
Just like the scars from the defeats.

I have been going to our games as a regular since the early 60s, seen some really great games and a horde of truly great players. Every victory and trophy won has been magic and this one is no different, we all know that some of the football we have seen this season has been far from good let alone perfect but once again we managed to win something.

Do we need a lot of work on the team to improve, fudging right we do because some of our games have been hard work watching them and its been depressing to say the least but having seen us relegated back in the day it is all part of being a supporter and i would not swap my side for any other team.

I am a old fart but i am not embarresed to admit i had a tear in my eye watching the players celebrate and watching Ange speak on the balcony last night. My team, my manager, our players gave me a brilliant couple of days and i hope we can now ALL look forward to a few more days to be as happy as i was to see it once again.
