He’s also against a far higher standard of opposition than he has ever faced outside of maybe World Cup and champions league/European experience and he didn’t fare well there

Right, with a much lower standard of player. His Australia team that you referenced played Chile, Netherlands and Spain in the World Cup. An insane draw. Yet we came out of that tournament with a lot of praise, and should really have beaten the Netherlands. He then won the Asian Cup the following year.

In 2021/22 he was knocked out in the Champions League players in his first couple of weeks. In his second season they lost to Real Madrid, RB Leipzig and got 2 draws with Shakhtar Donetsk.

What's next? If we run out of luck, we genuinely could find ourselves 2 or 3 down after 15-20 mins.
And it happens every game....it's like it's a bloody tactic. I'm sure if we had conceded as much as we should have. In previous games where we could have lost by 5 on quite a few occasions. He would have been gone already

I have also come to the conclusion that this club has a history (which everyone knows) that we are nearly men. And I was flummoxed why under different decades, players and managers why we are. And I remember what Kane and Conte said.

We don't require excellence and accept losing. So people who join don't feel the pressure to deliver collectively. As much as if they were at bigger clubs who win and have a history of it. We accept mediocrity. And that's what we get

I could never understand whether Kane was nurtured to that mentality or whether he was born that way. One thing I would say is that there was nothing talismanic about him for club or country when we really needed a talisman. Other clubs had less than complete teams, but their great players dragged them through. That certainly wasn't the case with Kane, Eriksen, Son etc. Kane wasn't alone in that mentality gap. The ones that may have had it were guys like Walker, Rose and Dele in my opinion. They had that different mentality. You could see it when they played in the toughest games.

With this current setup, we're just in a bad phase right now. I genuinely believe we have more mentality players than we give ourselves credit for. I enjoy having Venom, Porro, Gray, Bergval, Sarr, Solanke etc. These guys have potential to win things because of the way they cross the white line and the attitude they show on the pitch. We need more of that.

The tactical piece is getting out of the traps quickly. That is what Ange wants. He wants his guys to get to full throttle from the off. Unfortunately what we see is us conceding many chances in the early stages when our players have over committed, not to mention the number 6 gap.

I watched some of the Pool game last night. You could see with Slot that he could have his team on the full press one moment and sitting passively behind the ball in the next. It was almost like a tactical switch that kept disrupting the opposition. It also allowed the Pool players to manage the intensity of the game by getting some chances for breathers.

We need a manager who has this level of sophistication in his tactics, not just 90 mph all the time.

But isn’t that the point, you say the reason why you have confidence he has a higher standard of player but that’s offset by a more elite of opposition so there will be question marks as he hasn’t been tested at this level apart from the stints I mentioned ( despite the lower quality of players at his disposal and perhaps the spirited performances of the Aussie team) in which he ultimately came up short.

I just don’t see given the volumes of evidence in the negative column how we can have faith in this guy to turn things around, particularly given the solid regression over the past season and a half.

I’d love to share your enthusiasm because if Ange does well, Spurs do well but I see nothing apart from a coach hopelessly out of his depth at this level

If you’ve already mind your mind up, why do you keep quoting me/asking me questions? I think I’ve answered them in pretty good faith, using nothing but facts.

I'm questioning how we spent it. I'm not entirely enthused that us buying a bunch of kids without a mix of experience was the greatest move.
I understand the strategy but again it will be a 2 yr wait at best for it to gel, if Ange stays that long.

It also doesn't help with the youth we have.....loaned out all our youth set-up. Have them play a little. Then go spend X amount on Tel who may or may not stay.

And prior covid, Enic have proven not to go that extra mile for our squad when needed. Someone mentioned if we wanted Nike, we got the the Teemu version. And I believe that still won't change. Just hidden behind getting "youth". And the chances of us finding more prime Ali and Kanes, are lower than us having Skipps, Winks etc.

2 year wait? Bergvall and gray have been possibly our best players this season.

A little context...He then lost home and away to Bodo Glimpt in the Conference League that first season and the 2 draws against Shakhtar is reasonable, although Shakhtar were somewhat compromised by being in the middle of a war.

The natural conclusion to your argument is that the tactics are inferior to the current level of opposition

And we lost to a team whose manager was in jail! I appreciate you're just adding context so not having a dig, but I don't think pulling results here is that relevant to what's happened at Spurs.

I beg to disagree. I think people overrate the quality of our squad and I think you are under the grass is greener syndrome. Iraola has done well, yes. I think he looks good because he is at Bournemouth.
Sure but in the same token do you not overrate Ange?

So in summary over the last 5 pages … Ange can’t play his system due to injuries caused by some voodoo … nothing to do with Ange. And to say that he only has one way of playing is simple as he has shown that he can adapt … as per the results shown … however if we had a CDM he would sure up the midfield and the system would work even though Ange doesn’t play with one.

Right.

Yeh great. And that about the others?? Not everyone is gonna hit the ground running or have the opportunity to

Odoberts been injured. Kinsky was bought as backup as was danso. Udogie is our first choice lb when fit as is van der ven. Solanke is first choice striker when fit. Maddison has been hit and miss but was bought as first choice. Vicario is first choice gk. Dragusin back up. Johnson disappointing but gets goals.
Yang was bought for the future. Tel the jury is out.
