Andros Townsend

Bit disappointed to hear this. I like my wide players to stay wide and create space, go 1v1, get in behind etc. (then occasionally come inside). It's congested enough already in the middle with a 4-2-3-1, without the wide players coming inside all the time. It also negates any pace advantage the wide player might have. Although, if they are going wide they do need to have a variety of different crosses at their disposal -pull back, ping across, loft to back post etc etc

Also makes it so easy to defend against if you have zero width

you guys missed the most important part:

"to get through on goal more" - this is what we need.

we wont have zero width, its what our full backs are for.

Dude, he had an assist against Forest. He hit the bar and despite being wayward with his shooting he was the only player pre mason coming on, that did anything of note (even if that shoot and miss... A lot).

This is a homegrown player who is young and shown affection for apurs. Yet he gets ****ed off at the drop of a hat, and someone like soldado gets a free pass... I don't get it.

He had an assist for Forest in the same way as a keeper getting his fingertips to a shot is scoring an own goal. It was (yet another) horrible shot going wide that Soldado managed to latch onto.

Hitting the bar doesn't count for anything unless you're doing the half time challenge. He didn't do anything of note at all. I don't get this fan obsession with taking on his man being "doing something of note". It's only worthwhile if he's using that ability to find space for an accurate pass/shot or to pull players out of position and create space for others. He's not doing any of that.

I don't care if he's home grown or if we bought him for £80M from Pigfarmer FC in Estonia - I care if he's good enough for our first team and currently he's a very long way from that.

A lot has been said of Townsend's poor decision making, and he's certainly let himself down badly in this regards of late. My opinion is that he makes his mind up too early what he is about to do and then tries to carry it through even if its the wrong choice. It is easy to predict what he is about to do even before he does it, to me at least, and if I can see it then the defenders can. Needs to play more off the cuff.

Harsh. Getting the ball on target counts for something with our current lot. At the moment he isn't world class, far from it, but he might just be the spark that gets the fire going....

Apart from not scoring, not passing off quicker to better positioned players and hitting 99% of his shots into row Z, the main problem with Townsend is that he is just so predictable. He is the archetypical one trick pony. Should have stayed at QPR.

Well I gave him time and a little more then I would most because he is a spurs lad but he is not up to the level we need. I loved him in that cameo against Charlton a few years ago but he has not progressed as I had hoped into the English Bale.

Some players wont progress from 15/16 to make it at all in the game and some won't kick on from 18/19 Townsend is stuck at that level I think.

We should have accepted from Southampton the bid and gone for Redmond he looks a more intelligent player with better decision making. Sad because Townsend seems like a nice lad but do not think he will ever fulfil his promise with us.

Dude, he had an assist against Forest.

Seriously???

I suppose he meant that fluke he scored last season.

If he was ever in a threesome he end up ****ing on the other guys face by accident.

He probably needs to sit down when he takes a **** too

I'd still like to keep him. I want to see him given a run of games on the left wing. I think he tries to do too much as he doesn't have a chance over a period of games so he tries to shoot his load in one game. He's frustrating but I'd much rather stick with him

If he didn't take the shot then it would not have been a goal.... Its an assist.

He's a decent backup/game changer in the sense that his direct style is unlike anything else we have in the squad. The problem is he is very much a winger and not a forward. Early on after Mason came on we had a great chance where Soldado flicked the ball onto Mason on the left side of the box, who subsequently crossed into an empty penalty area. A wide forward would've been gambling and getting to the back post but Townsend was standing on the edge of the 18 yard box in the position of a winger. It's just an instinct that he hasn't got. Hopefully he will learn it or at least manage it now and then, but I see him being like Lennon in this respect, who used to drive me mad doing the same thing.

Do not waste your time, Scara has a blind spot when it comes to Townsend

You might have to sit down for this as its quite out there. What if Andros Townsend tried passing the ball once he gets near the penalty area?
How about he started intentionally creating chances for his teammates.

Which one trick? The pace to take players on? The threatening crosses he put in on Wednesday? The free kick? The shots?

He comes inside and goes outside. If he improved his decision making or his shooting he'd be a good player to have in the squad.

Comes inside to take a pot shot, which invariably flies wide. Robben he is not! Having pace is of no use if it does not result in assists or goals. Which crosses are you referring to? I didn't see any reach their 'target'. He has shown no improvement in his football brain in all the time he has been in the first team squad. QPR is his level.

Robben is an interesting reference point; for Cheatski his game was all about breaking at pace into space, flying down the wings and cutting in. His game now seems to be dribbling along the face of the area waiting for a tackle to dive/win a free kick or curl a left footed shot into the far corner.

It seems one dimensional but when he scores over and over again it seems a good tactic!

Townsend probably sees himself as similar; for me he needs to stop slashing at his shots and put more care into a good contact and getting them ON TARGET

Well no, the only Robben is Robben.

The crosses he put into the box on Wednesday. Our striker was several yards behind the play, either not paying attention or not willing to put the effort in to get at them. QPR might eventually be his level, for now he cost us nothing and he's the best backup for the three behind the striker we have.

Straight choice. Lennon or Townsend?

For me, Townsend every time going forward. If we need a back tracker, against the best teams for example, Lennon might get the nod - but only to help out a full back in defending.

None of them! Poch plays "inside rights" and "inside lefts" and he inverts them, in fact he does not believe in out and out wide players/wingers, so can't see either of these guys ever being regulars.

If you watch most of the time he shoots because he is moving across the box and the ball is running away from him. That's why his shots are wild, he leaves it to late.

Obviously he can improve and that's one of main areas that he can and needs to do it in.

But he is still young still learning and until all others with big price tags are treated/critised equally to him, then I will keep defending him when he is singled out.

Pre mason coming on we as a team were ****, Andros was not great by any means but he was at least trying to be positive and was far from the worst attacking player on show. Yet he was singled out as for horrendous abuse on here, while soldado who was infinitely worse was barely mentioned.

Nah mate that ain't fair, he is a local who came through our youth system who shows potential (he may or may not fulfill it) and we should be a lot more patient with him, or least give him the patients that we have shown soldado.
