Andre Villas-Boas - Head Coach

Re: AVB On Reals Madrid's Short List For New Manager

Porto/Academica thought the same when Chelsea/Porto came calling.

In fact AVB has never done longer than a season in a job so far. He did 7 months at Academica, 12 at Porto, and 6 at Chelsea.

I don't think he'll go to Madrid yet, but he will leave us for a bigger club in the next 2 or 3 years.

Yep.

He did not deal with stars very well at Chelsea..he has to prove something before his next move..I believe he will do that here. Certainly a Cup..I believe a title tilt is not out of the question next term.

We are hard to beat and have matchwinners. Not a great deal needs to be added to the mix.

Re: AVB On Reals Madrid's Short List For New Manager

who knows what happens if we can get a run in the CL that takes us past our new stadium build.
dream story if AVB is still there growing and maturing together with the club.

I share that dream. There will be rewards for long term stability.

Re: AVB On Reals Madrid's Short List For New Manager

AVB is a young guy who has had success early and disappointment early. He has bounced back but he has proven nothing so far at Spurs. If he finishes top 4 and no trophy that is not an achievement to put in his CV. That is what HR did last term and Harry ain't on RM's short list.

AVB - Making Tottenham His Own

Didn't see this posted here and couldn't find the old AVB thread...thought this was a honest writeup on AVB, the circumstance he faced at the start, and his work with the club so far.

Some notable quotes:
But Villas-Boas quickly learned from his mistakes after being sacked by Chelsea last March, where he alienated key players in the dressing room at Stamford Bridge and took a confrontational approach to the media.

At Spurs, he has the players on his side and is very much making the Enfield training base his own as he looks to guide Spurs into next season’s Champions League and secure a major trophy in the form of the Europa League.

and
From Redknapp's 'piggy in the middle' training sessions, the players now turn up every morning expecting something different from the day before. The training ground is a mountain of dossiers and powerpoint presentations but, on the pitch, he makes sure it all makes sense to the players.

to

He also has the likes of Freund adding the fun, light-hearted and passionate side to the management team, the German a virtual cheerleader on the touchline on match days.

Me too.

I couldn't be happier with how we've bounced back after last season's disasterous spring and the loss of Modric, vdV and King.

I would strongly recommend people who haven't read AVB's biography, for more of an insight into him.

My only complaint with the article is the portrayal of Freund as a "cheerleader". From what I've seen/heard, he's a progressive and intelligent coach in his own right.

I certainly don't love him. Not yet. However, that's my issue and right now he is doing a very good job.

Have to say that I didn't think it was a smart appointment at first but have been convinced that he is a ggod manager.

I only wish we could support him a little more in the transfer windows

Third is up for grabs but I feel that we may have missed a trick in Jan

What I really like about the guy is his morales and ethics. He is not a sore loser, always says good things and is generally a very positive person. I think there was an instance in the Lyon game where we are heading out, just before we scored, i think it was Umtiti who nearly clashes into AVB as he slides off the pitch. It's such a small thing but AVB gives the fella a pat on the back, really sporting it would seem, despite the fact we're seemingly going out. I love that he can walk with his head held high. Really top bloke, and incredibly impressive in the way he has continuously handled himself.

AVBs chelsea record:
P40 W19 D11 L10

AVBs Spurs record:
P38 W19 D11 L8

Really hope its just a coincidence, we could do with not losing our next two games...i love AVB btw.

Re: AVB article - villas-boas-making-tottenham-his-own

Where i stand on this is, i wanted redknapp gone. Had no idea what sort of manager avb would be, some of the football this season has been truly awful to watch. But we are winning more and not getting dingdonged over so i am prepared to except this as that is what a team that wants to be near the top does.

Love the guys personality and it is so refereshing not to have to read brick in the press coming from our manager every week. Avb seems like he is a man of today who does things the corporate way. I really like the guy and he clearly knows football.

He has dealt with the friedel/loris thing well and did not go ape brick and ade either, think we have one of the best coaches in the league here.

All he needs now is a chairman that gives him a striker whose is not departed and we could be good to go.
