You may have misconstrued my reference to bankruptcy as I meant to say worse case*.
It’s one of the biggest critiques of the student debt crisis. Bankruptcy alone is a better option than bankruptcy + you keep the student debt and have to pay it off when trying to rebuild your life from the bottom up.
We should look to other industries that do a far better job as both offsetting and having a lower barrier to entry to become qualified. Especially in relation to the eventual earning potential. Plumbers, electricians, HVAC techs. Your talking about £10k to be qualified and most of the time that cost of subsidised by an employer. But a social worker needs a 4 year degree plus a masters to make 1/3 of the salary. Makes no sense.
I support debt relief across the board for people with the most amount of debt relative to their income level. It would be a massive economic boom as well.
But not a blanket student debt relief as the bulk is held by people with PHD & Masters degrees who can afford the repayments based on their salary, which is in part due to their level of education.

I think you're missing my point. Anyway...you said:

You're right.
It makes no sense.
Make sure those careers are paid much better, and make sure that the educational path to such careers is financially supported appropriately.
I don't think there's much taste for that within the halls of the guy putting this forward.

We are in agreement on the above.
