There are, of course, some complete macarons like Tommy Tuberville, for example. If you looked up stupid in the dictionary there would be a picture of this man. He's a racist taco too, needless to say.

From what I can tell, she's said that her old tweets don't reflect her current views, but she hasn't explicitly said she no longer supports abolishing prisons, the police, or borders. When asked about those issues, she's often declined to give straightforward yes-or-no answers.

Even if her views have changed, why take the risk? Why choose a candidate who has publicly advocated such fringe positions in the past when there are moderate Democrats who don't carry that baggage? It just seems like an unnecessary political liability.
 
They should certainly abolish for profit prisons, and ICE. US law enforcement needs serious reforms too. And brickcan the supreme court too. Zero point to them now.

Because people in NY like her policies. Mamdani has proved that radical really isn't that radical. I mean, the man oozes charisma.

I think it's a problem for the Dem party as they are terrified of this brand of politics. AOC and Sanders and Co appeal to a new generation of Americans imo
 
I think there does need to be some acknowledgment that when people are young and get in to politics they may hold some views that are seen as extreme because that’s how young politically motivated people act. Nobody is aggressively moderate as a 20 year old student lol and the social media those views will be expressed.

Have to be consistent about that in both directions though. If we want to get motivated young people on to politics you can’t hold everything they have ever said against them. Although there will be some genuinely mental people who slip through the net on both sides especially on districts that will always vote for the same party.

It’s all about charisma. There were a lot of people in AOC’s district that voted for her and Trump.

AOC is wildly unpopular with swing voters though. The half a million people in swing states that actually determine who the President will be.

Bernie a different story. I think he could have won in 2016.

And for good reason. I agree that America has too many people in prison and that parts of the criminal justice system need serious reform. But abolishing prisons and the police? That would be a recipe for chaos. The police need reform and accountability, not abolition. In fact, when you ask people living in many deprived or high-crime areas, they often want more effective policing and better policing—not less policing.

While I agree that charisma is half the battle in politics, I think the Democrats need someone who combines charisma with the ability to win over centrist voters. That's what made Obama so effective. He had the charisma, but he also came across as thoughtful, pragmatic, and capable of bringing people together. Even someone like Gavin Newsom, whether or not you agree with all of his policies, comes across as polished and broadly mainstream in a way that could appeal to many voters in the political centre.
