I was thinking that the Democrats would win the House narrowly (not the blue wave) and lose a seat or two in the Senate.

However, I'm beginning to doubt the former. That caravan of migrants is political dynamite and if the Democrats support their rights to claim entry it will end badly in November.

That's the main problem with the Democrats right now, they've forgotten to play the ball and not the man.

The Conservatives learned this at their expense in the last election with Corbyn. When your opponent is such a ridiculous choice as leader, when they're an extremist in many of their views, and are just thoroughly unfit for politics, attacking that just plays into their "anyone but the establishment" rhetoric. It makes you look like you're attacking them because they're not a part of the establishment rather than because they'd be a complete fudging horrorshow if they ever got into power.

If the Democrats stuck with a message of trade tariffs are bad, protectionism is bad, removing people's human rights is bad, etc they'd be doing a lot better. Unfortunately, laughing at Trump because he talks bad and thinks bad just makes them sound like snobby Californians laughing at the rednecks.

Bingo. The saem happened with G W Bush who spoke like a drunk with a mouth full of marbles. Progressives wasted so much time laughing at him he got away with horrendous things. Democrats should attack based on how much worse things are for the "average" American. As James Carville (sort of) said during Clinton's (Bill) 1992 campaign, 'it's the economy, stupid'.

Nothing has backfired yet on these heinous, hateful Republicans. And if they are able to vote suppress and vote hack the mid-terms they will keep both houses and strengthen their stranglehold on what passed for Justice in these not very United States.
