24/25 Injury Thread

Sounds like we’ll be without Maddison on Thursday, hopefully he’s fit for the final and Kulusevski can rediscover his mojo in the meantime.

Speaking to our Review Show from the London Stadium, Ange was asked for an update on the pair and told us: “Dom’s improving every day. It made sense not to bring him along today, but we’re pretty confident he’ll be right. Madders... less optimistic. We’re still getting some more information, but that could be more of a concern for us.”

Speaking later in his press conference, Ange said on Madders: "No, it doesn't look great, but we're just waiting for further information. We'll just wait and see. Hopefully, we'll get some clarity tomorrow. It's fair to say it doesn't look promising but I'll just wait and see."

And on Dominic, he added: "Dom's improving. We obviously left him out today, but the medical team are pretty confident he should be right for Thursday."
 
No more Swedes for us until next season it seems… hopefully it’ll be the start of 25/26 and not a full 12 months!

Asked if Kulusevski will be ready for the start of next season,” Postecoglou said: “We'll see. I only have basic information in terms of his recovery.”

He added: “Nowhere near 12 months [out]. Me putting a timeframe on it wouldn't be right. The surgery was yesterday, we'll get more information. A lot of it is about how the players react. Fair to say months but how many months I wouldn't speculate.”

Speculation on social media in the wake of Kulusevski’s injury being confirmed saw suggestions that Bergvall could be in line for a surprise return to face Manchester United next week, but Postecoglou has ruled out that possibility.

“No, it is still the same sort of timeframe. He was never a long-term one but he has literally just got out of the boot and taken his first tentative steps on the grass, but he won’t be available,” Postecoglou explained.

Slot also allows his players to stay at home the night before a home match, rather than sleeping in a hotel as they did under Klopp.

"He introduced the 'Breakfast Club' at Feyenoord where, every day, players and staff and even the Feyenoord media would come to the training ground early and complete lots of different challenges related to health and that sort of thing, but it was all done in a fun way.

"It helped with the players' fitness, and it was something that everyone enjoyed, because players would be challenging each other in the gym or outside doing running. This season, that's not totally gone but they don't do it every day like they did under Slot. Quite often after training, players would like to go straight home. Under Slot, they enjoyed staying behind to carry on working on themselves."

To think.... We could've had Slot if we hadn't cheaped out on paying his Feyenoord release clause. We'll probably spend as much money sacking Ange as we could've spent to hire Slot. Buy cheap buy twice and all that!

Ange Postecoglou has confirmed Lucas Bergvall is not available for the UEFA Europa League Final and that the squad going into Wednesday's showpiece is 'pretty much the same as last week'.

Lucas has not recovered in time from an ankle injury sustained in training just before the first leg of our semi-final against Bodo/Glimt.

Ange also confirmed that Pape Matar Sarr 'is fine' after departing early from Sunday's Premier League clash at Villa 'feeling his back'.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference from Estadio de San Mames on Wednesday afternoon, Ange said: "Team news is pretty much the same, Lucas is not available, so we're pretty much the same as we were last week."

That means Lucas remains out alongside James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, Radu Dragusin and Dane Scarlett.
 
Oh by the way, I forgot to mention, maybe others did.
When the final whistle went, and Bergvall ran onto the pitch.
He was running (hobbling) like a very injured person, with one leg super stiff and ungainly.
So he was never remotely close to playing.
 
Just the 73 games played by Barcola and Modric last season, they must have quite the fitness regimen!
