2022 World Cup... gonna ruin the European Season

Good to see Hojbjerg getting a decent rest before resuming his most important duties. Same with Davies, who took a knock against England and will need time. Be good to see Ghana do us a further favour by sending Bentancur home early and that's our two dogs-of-war midfielders out of the hurly-burly early.

I could stand to see Son get more playing time to rediscover his form but big ask for SK to get a necessary win over Portugal. Still, won't hurt to have him back, rested and ready to resume. Romero didn't play well coming back from his injury for Spurs and hasn't looked his best for Argentina but they look likely to make the final 16, so maybe there's some remedial moments awaiting him.

As for Richarlison, with all the down time he's had this season, pressing on with Brazil will be a good thing, both for his form and his psychological outlook. Can't begrudge Lloris marching on with France. Kane and Dier? It would be better to see them both play well and go deep in the tournament and come home in contented frames of mind. But they are among Spurs most relied upon players and a quarter-final defeat for England wouldn't bovver me.

Not a great squad though - Eriksen and Kjaer are past their best; they've got Hojbjerg and a few decent defenders (Christensen and Andersen), but very little going forward.

Agree but I thought they would get out of the group, no expectations beyond that really, but thought they'd make it to the last 16.
But we get PEH back early, so that's definitely good for us.

Did you ever see Arsenal at the tail end of Wenger?
Completely different situation.

With a team as talented as England, they should have no issue having the full backs overlap whilst Grealish, Maddison and Foden interchange and come inside to try to unlock defences. Foden and Grealish are very good at running at defenders and being tricky in the box. The 2 in the pivot would sit and protect the counter with Bellingham pushing forward when we are fully dominating.

Or it could be like when we used to try combinations of Eriksen, Siggy, Chadli and Holtby in the front 4, pre Son and Alli - lots of players wanting to be in the same area and getting in each others way, never really stretching play

Seems to work perfectly for City.
