Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

Yes, and that's why it worked in Scotland. Celtic had (by and large) the best players in the league. And their opponents did not have the quality to exploit the inherent flaws in the system. We have got two major problems: A system that is flawed and a manager who will not change it. I can...

Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

Game by game, its becoming increasingly clear that his sytem is fundamentally flawed. I sense that the players themselves are not on board with it now. What it looks like to me is that the high line and the full backs inversion is leaving us exposed, the midfielders (and the full backs) are...

Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

Good Post. There's still a decent chance he may come good.....but it won't happen with this system.

Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

Exactly this. We look good at times. But that is, at least partly, because teams allow us posession in the knowledge that a) we will attempt the same attacking play every time and it can be nullified b) we will leave ouselves exposed defensively and they will, eventually, get clear chances...

Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

Good post and agree with everything bar the last paragraph. To me, it is now evident that Ange's system will not cut it in the prem. I suspect that it won't work in Europe either. Its not a reaction to the game on Sunday, not even to the 4 games so far this season. I've been a every home...

Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

Yes, we have been on a downward trajectory since the Chelsea home game last season.....we were top, the system got sussed we dropped to fifth.....we are now looking like a mid-table outfit. So we do need a turnaround. Of course we may go on a run of good results and I agree that we play some...

Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

I think this is happening. They seem to be getting frustrated with the system. Maddison in particular appears particularly unhappy. The inversion of the full backs reduces the space he has to find the key passes.

Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

Well, I very much hope your are right and I'm wrong. And I'll happily eat my words if things turn out like that. But, the Everton game aside, ( and they are utter brick defensively) At no time this season have we looked like scoring. And at no time did we look anything other than vulnerable to...

Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

A well writtren article but the positivity therein relies on stats. The stats paint a certain picture - high percentage posession etc.etc. But the stats are deceptive. I saw every home game last season and I've seen the first two this season. We are playing in exactly the same way. That...

Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

Its my opinion that the "Ange ball" system is fundamentally flawed. The high press/high line, compounded by the inversion of the fullbacks is causing: A) Vulnerability to swift counter attack when posession is lost -particularly in the centre B) Congestion in the midfield area restricting the...
