There's practical things to consider, even if there's a belief that its minor (no pun) offence and in restorative justice (he's served his time). E.g. with a child sex conviction, under UK safeguarding laws, he wouldn't be allowed on the same site as our academy teams.

    New Captain Poll

I guess it depends how formal you define it. E.g. I can't believe Poch didn't harness the characters of Kane, Vertonghen, Dier and Son, in addition to Lloris. Part of it might be to do with having to manage squads of approaching 30 these days, compared to the 16 or 17 there were in the two...

I've known alcoholics climb out of 4th storey hotel windows in search of their fix, so you never know.

This would be better (more balanced, especially towards creativity) Kinsky Porro, JPvH, VDV, Udogie Tonali, Fernandes Kudus, Kulu, Savinho Osimhen

Yeah - that's the figure being quoted in quite a few places

They are the two players in recent EPL history who have served extended bans for illicit betting - Toney banned for 8 months, Tonali banned for 10 months. And you think putting them together - with hours to kill on coaches and in hotels - doesn't create an unnecessary risk?

Gakpo is 27 though (last big contract/minimal resale after that territory) whereas those two are 19/20, which does effect prices quite a lot now.

Its the very nature of addiction. It is never cured, just managed to varying levels. And one of the best management strategies is removing all temptation

Most do - Chris Hughton introduced the idea at Saudi Sportswashing Machine first and its spread to most places

I've not been as excited by a potential CF signing since we were strongly linked with peak Eto'o (a very similar player actually) under Hoddle

Him and Tonali dragging each other into gamblers' rehab? Like when Boro let Gazza and Merson house share

What do you see in VDV's character that makes him a good candidate?

Is his x-factor worth it though? He's a whole different level of good from any other CF around this summer. And is De Zerbi the type of character that can harness him, because he has his own fireyness?

Agree. But Arteta is allergic to CF (plus Osimhen isn't good enough at set pieces), Chelsea have about 7 CFs and United won't twist on Cunha yet

None of the other Super League clubs are really in the market for an alpha CF. His options probably are us or Saudi

£55m is cheap for arguably the best finisher in world football. I appreciate wages maybe harder, but we don't necessarily have to match his artificial Gala ones. Its up to him if he wants the glory, or to disappear to Saudi to maintain his money
  20. Gutter Boy

    Cody Gakpo

It will be a bit gutting though if we spend £70m on Gakpo, which enables Liverpool to spend £100m on Barcola
