Because Tonali is at least as good, if not better, than Wharton?

    Rafael Leao

Is he too much of a small town boy?

Gakpo is the one I’d like most of all the left sided attackers we’ve been linked with.

We mucked that one up. Usually the player signs ‘subject to medical’ I.e. only we could pull the plug on the deal if the medical showed something but the player can’t pull out without being in breach of contract.

    Rafael Leao

He looks like George Weah one minute and then George Weah’s cousin the next minute.

    Sandro Tonali

Not just ‘how’ but also ‘when’.

There are loads of good players in the French league. They also tend to adapt well to premier league football.

    Mateus Ferdnandes

I think he is the best deep lying midfielder that we had any chance of getting (and I thought that the chance was very low). Equally I think that Tonali is the best central misfield partner that we could bring in for him in a double pivot (again initially thinking the chances were very low)...

I thought he did start regularly (and played very well) until injured later in the season?

Tel is quite a few levels above Lankshear right now. Probably had a higher ceiling as well.

Neither are donkeys. Richi has been somewhat injury prone but his goals per 90 at Spurs has been ok, Solanke did well for Ange but was horribly unsuited to Frank’s horseshoe ball, set piece goal dependent system. I think Solanke will do pretty well in De Zerbi’s high press, early pass through...

Got to say that I’m loving post Levy Spurs in the transfer market. Amazing what we can do when we don’t have to ‘win’ every deal.

I think we’re going to get both.

If there's no Tonali and no Mateus, who will take it?

I wouldn’t mind Curtis Jones from Liverpool if Fernandes prefers Man Utd over us. Can somebody that way inclined post up one of those stats wheel things for Jones?

Players are notoriously difficult to value. I think if we were bringing in a player of similar skill and promise from overseas in the current market we’d be paying £65-£70m. Is him being proven in the PL worth £20m on top?…. I’d say it probably is.

On loan to a championship side yes….

This might be controversial on here but if Chelsea need to sell a few desperately, then I would try to get Nicholas Jackson from them. He misses lots of chances like Andy Cole used to but, as with Andy Cole, he also creates himself lots of chances with his excellent movement,

Good on and off the ball I’d say. He was a signing I tipped for us to make back when he was at Sourhampton. I must say that I didn’t realise how young he was. I’m even more impressed now that I know that.

He is very raw but has lots of potential upside. Liverpool can afford to take the gamble whereas I don’t think we can. IMO Said El Malia would be the best LW signing we could make if looking to the Bundesliga. Though I’d be delighted with Gakpo as a PL proven player if those links happen to...
