The Overlap - some interesting comments from Ange

If we ignore all the reasons it would be a bad idea it would seem like a really good idea. A bit like hiring Frank.

Thomas Frank - Former Head Coach

Most clubs will be the wrong place for many managers including capable one's. We need someone who suits us, our needs and our circumstances. (Come the summer, right now we just need to avoid the drop (and win the CL)).

Doubt very much that it was selfless. But what he wanted and we (most of us) wanted was aligned. Most managers will be self serving and self interested, obviously. Like Frank was self serving and imo probably desperate. Trying to win the next game, overplaying Porro, Bentancur, Kudus, playing...

Thomas Frank - Former Head Coach

I mostly agree. I just don't think part of his problem was being too honest. He was the wrong guy, that's not on him.

Interim Manager Discussion - Igor Tudor joined until end of season

Agreed. And this is a huge decision. Getting this wrong could mean relegation. Take a day or two extra and try to get it right, try to get the best candidate even if difficult. Reporting that it was like Groundhog day in meetings about sacking Frank for months. I'm sure someone has thought...

Thomas Frank - Former Head Coach

I didn't see him as that honest personally. Had he come in and said that in the first season the focus will be on defensive solidity and set pieces rather than attacking and our in possession game that would have been honest. Instead he spoke about the importance of goals and attacking football...

Thomas Frank - Former Head Coach

Not old enough to remember early days Ferguson, and can't say I remember early days Wenger well enough either. Mourinho came in with buckets of confidence and had no problems expressing it. All three had no issues glossing over or not telling the full truth about things.

    Archie Gray

Too early to say. For now start him most games and give him the ball. One of few bright spots against Saudi Sportswashing Machine. His passing over the top that released Odobert in our very few glimpses of light in the first half. His dribbling and ability in tight spaces that helped us keep and progress the...

Thomas Frank - Former Head Coach

There are thousands of true things a manager could say. Many of them won't be particularly helpful to say. I'm a big fan of people in this kind of role showing confidence in themselves and the players. Ultimately what happens in press conferences isn't that important, but it's part of how a...

Haven't seen the interview yet. Still mixed on letting him go, can understand it, but also think it would have been interesting to see what he could have done. Think vibes are often underestimated. Good vibes makes managers (and players) perform better. With the EL win we had the chance to...

Interim Manager Discussion - Igor Tudor joined until end of season

Absolutely. I still have a lot of respect for Frank. If he genuinely thought his job was safe at this point I'd have slightly less respect for him. Surely he must have known that he was hanging on by a thread for a while.

OMT Spurs vs Geordies 7.30 Tuesday 10th Feb

I don't disagree. But the second half was at least a contest of sorts. First half we were outclassed. On to the next. Again I agree with you, let's hope for the best.

Interim Manager Discussion - Igor Tudor joined until end of season

Alternatively Poch could just say any of the many rather mundane things that trigger the MAGA crowd, get fired, get a pay off and join us for free... (Edit: No, it isn't lost on me that the above would probably also count to some as one such sentence).

Don't care about where he's coming from. Brentford like Frank, Celtic like Ange, Southampton like Pochettino or Real Madrid for that matter as long as he's a good fit and the right man for the job. My problems with Frank at least were never that he came from Brentford as such.

    Conor Gallagher

He isn't a quality ball player, but he also imo isn't as bad at it as he was yesterday.

Thomas Frank - Former Head Coach

To me arguing against a perception of what can't be confirmed or denied rather than against what people are actually saying seems like a good way to increase polarisation. Then again I find it borderline incomprehensible that someone wouldn't see injuries for example as at the very least a...

Thomas Frank - Former Head Coach

Could definitely be the case, for sure has happened before. I decided to not go into the Ange thing at this point. But you did also write "But this idea that Thomas Frank has been this uniquely bad coach and our struggles are all on him is simply not true." I haven't seen anyone make that...

    Conor Gallagher

Looked shattered yesterday. Was still running, but had the running style of an exhausted Scott Parker out there. He was poor, no doubt. But I'm guessing that's partly fitness/inury/similar problems and that this also contributed to how poor he was on the ball.

Thomas Frank - Former Head Coach

Is there a single person on here who has made a single post saying that our struggles this season are all on Frank?

    Wilson Odobert

For fudges sake. Looked bad, then looked slightly promising when he was able to walk off. But no such luck. Will be missed.
