***OMT TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR FC V fulham...Sat 29th (today FFS!) 8pm - BTW HAPPY BIRTHDAY FERNADEZ'S OLDEST KID***

To me yes. To me at least was positive to see Bergvall and Gray got a start. But very much looked like a 4-3-3 with Palhinha holding and Gray and Bergvall in box to box roles, but box to box without getting on the ball much. Back 4 with no Romero, Palhinha deepest in midfield. Neither Gray or...

Fully agreed mate. Even though you're mixing the subs a bit. Just for clarity, not having a go. Bergvall was subbed for Sarr, the Bentancur, Xavi and Odobert sub was a bit earlier. To me we lost a lot when Bergvall want off. Him dropping deeper after the 3 man sub was really useful. We were...

Fulham could go home at the final whistle and this could still be true. Frank needs to find some solutions here. Maybe we could try getting one of the really talented young players in midfield to drop a bit deeper to get on the ball more.

I can see that. Though I think there's a different similarity too. Probabilistic thinking is rather difficult and not that intuitive for us. So the people who are unable to understand why those formulas at the bookies don't work also will struggle to understand how xG works.

I know full well that each shot is one event with it's probability. And that the total xG is cumulative. I also understand that a higher number in isolation in one game doesn't equal better. You may very well have an xG of 1 or 2 and score zero goals. Big chances or small chances, we've all...

I think we're in agreement? Create enough of those low quality chances to get an xG of 2 and on average you'll score two goals in that game none the less. And I'd rather have that than an xG under 1 or close to 0. For the experience of the game, particularly if we don't end up scoring, it's...

    Cristian Romero

I'm not saying it's a great pass. I'm saying it looks to me fine enough. I'd expect most midfielders at this level to be able to deal with that pass without losing it the majority of the time. It's a pass we've started looking for and playing more recently from what I've seen. Alternative is to...

    Cristian Romero

Everyone will mess it up sometimes in a situation like that. Even Vitinha. And yes, our players too. It's a question of frequency imo. If the alternative becomes being easy to press and always being forced long I prefer the risk of sometimes losing the ball. That will include sometimes playing...

Possession says more about style of play and game flow than quality. Shots, and somewhat better xG tells a bit. It won't tell if a team will win or lose a game. But give me an xG for of 0.1 or 2.0 in any given game and I'll take the latter. Give us an average xG for of 1.5 for the rest of the...

It's a somewhat glorified shot statistic. But it also tells us more than a shot statistic. A stat doesn't have to be 100% accurate to be useful.

    Cristian Romero

Is it too much to ask for our midfielders to receive the ball in a situation like that? Sarr was showing for it, had a yard on the opposition player when it was passed IIRC. Perhaps Romero should know better and only play that pass if the receiving player is Gray? Or can he play that pass to...

Or we need to keep trying, maybe we'll improve at it if we practice.

Spot on for me. Much improved, handbrake off. Both player selection and actually getting players forward when we have the ball. Got a bit too long ball happy towards the end would be my only complaint in terms of play. We did well on the ball when we played it on the ground. Oh, and just give...

    Thomas Frank - Head Coach

Yeah, we weren't without those 3 for sustained periods last season. We were without several other key players for sustained periods though. We have players to settle in this season, but we also had that last season. We have been eeking out some wins and ok results. I'd argue we've been somewhat...

    Thomas Frank - Head Coach

Kudus and Palhinha have obviously made the biggest impact so far. No doubt Maddison, Solanke and Kulusevski are big misses for us. Not denying the impact of injuries. But compared to last season I don't think the injury problems overall have been worse. Squad, disregarding injuries, clearly...

    Thomas Frank - Head Coach

I'm noticing myself becoming increasingly critical of Frank so probably some reasons to take my opinion with an even greater pinch of salt than usual. I'm struggling to see transparency. Or if this is transparency on his part I'm struggling with his diagnosis of some of our problems.

What would YOUR priority signing be in the Jan transfer window?

Said this before, but depends on how Frank wants us to play, both this season and going forward. If he thinks we'll be able to significantly improve our possession game this season and that's a priority a lot of options are on the table. If he thinks that's unlikely or not the priority at the...

    Thomas Frank - Head Coach

We have an improved squad compared to last season. Made this point before, but even more so compared to the start of last season. We do have injuries for sure and for sure that's impacting us. Then again, injuries were a huge factor last season. I'm not saying Frank shouldn't get time. But he...

    Thomas Frank - Head Coach

Agreed that deep in midfield is pretty much the only consistent defensive priority selection. Though in some games we have seen others too. Sarr as a 10, back 5. But it's not only about selection, it's also how the players are used and positioning when we have the ball. Relatively conservative...

Yeah all is as well as can be expected. Thanks. Just hope we can show some bounce back and those long needed improvements in our attacking/possession game can come sooner rather than later.
