    Thomas Frank - Head Coach

Of all the players we're being linked with right now, which do you think would suit Frank and us best? I love Eze, would want Eze, and wanted him a year ago; is he still the right player for our squad? Would we do well with a Wissa? Where do people think Frank will shuffle the current pack for...

The 'If You Still Need to Purge Yourself Of Ange' Thread

Of course he could've been pragmatic. That's also been discussed many times. As have his reasons for not (some to do with 'who he is', others to do with getting players to buy in whatever as long as he protects them - which he did). I think the pragmatic approach in Europe was an anomaly caused...

I think had he been able to, he'd have started Maddison and Deki for sure. I agree with your bold-faced point, and perhaps that supports an underlying point @billyiddo was trying to make, that in the end he abandonned his core principles in order to win the thing. Wholly, wholly possible. We'll...

The 'If You Still Need to Purge Yourself Of Ange' Thread

We all want football conversations. You believe they were shut down by some because of 2 narratives - injury/fatigue and EL focus. I agree. Those topics did derail 'football conversations'. What also derailed such conversations, were the narratives which insisted he was clearly out of his depth...

Errr...injuries? LOL...it's the truth! As for the line about 'winning the league/CL' I've given my view on that many times. It isn't scientific and it isn't necessarily tangible as what I wondered was whether the magic of winning would foster not only new self-belief but also deliver a couple...

The 'If You Still Need to Purge Yourself Of Ange' Thread

Absolutely. There's always two sides to a story, I don't disagree. Personally, I don't apologise for not publicly recognising such factors when we win massive games we have been unable to in the decades past, just like I won't ever bang on about the perceived 'quality' of a trophy won.

BTW @billyiddo I personally think these latest exchanges we've had have been excellent, and will hopefully swiftly advance this thread to a point where you'll be able to gently shut it down and we can all get on down with Super Thomas.

I can only give you my opinion in answering mate. I'll go to something you said which is nothing is quite black or white (other than the trophy!)... Ange could've achieved a lot more by being more tactically flexible, less stubborn in his principles, and willing to accept the situation he was...

I'll save is both the back and forth on things we know we disagree on, but I will focus on this for a discussion. First off, we paid dearly for gambling with Forster. The drop-off from Vicario to him was huge. I could well be critical of Ange for not using Austin as he was better, however...

The 'If You Still Need to Purge Yourself Of Ange' Thread

The ONLY reason that happens is because those factors are either greatly diminished or simply not acknowledged as being factors. In fact, the rhetoric at that point brings us back to 'from game 11 on' in his first season, and how he is so obviously out of his league. Even the 5th place finish...

LOL...it's actually just as pointless discussing this if that is your perspective. Needless to say, you appear to have hit a point where your frustration is now giving way to inaccurate observations (with regards to 'get out of jail free' cards)...

...and we're back at context and details. I will (for interest!) go and see who was missing that season for them with regards to key positions. You may well be right, and bravo, he did indeed finish 7th. But I wonder if you asked Howe whether he'd have taken 17th, finishing 15 points above...

Are you saying injuries have no bearing if you're good enough? Surely it's a matter of numbers, both in terms of who is hurt and who is then available.

Incredible. It is a simple point. He succeeded. He brought us our first European trophy in 41 years. Trophies = success in a tangible form. No-one is arguing that he succeeded in the Premier League. You simply said he hadn't succeeded. Quotes from Ange? Great. But again, trophies are the...

The 'If You Still Need to Purge Yourself Of Ange' Thread

Errrr...I agree it isn't a black and white answer, but it is also inaccurate to say he didn't succeed. He did. He won a trophy. That's probably the single most tangible example of success football allows us.

The key here is (IMO anyway) that they had made the decision to move on a few months before the end of the season. I believe Ange knew it/sensed it anyway. Truthfully, I don't know if he'd have taken the gamble to put all eggs in a single basket otherwise. It was a 'death & glory' sort of...
