Rumour is we are trying to get West Ham to take Biss + cash for Pacqueta... ...I initially wondered if Pahlinha's signing could release Biss to play as the 8 he is? But the riumour makes sense in light of Maddison...I think Pahlinha will allow the Bergys, Bents, and Sarrs to be 'braver' on the...

Agreed and we needed both those areas before Madders injury...

OMT: Spurs v Saudi Sportswashing Machine - Sonny's Farewell

That would be a disaster IMO.

    Joao Palhinha

I mentioned him last summer as the one I'd have tried to prise away. But with Gray, we now have a teacher in Palhinha.

    Pape Matar Sarr

Love how Frank seems to be potentially seeing Sarr as an attacking 8, and at times almost in that Alli role off the shoulder of a striker (albeit we have not seen Solanke hardly so tough to gauge...)...he is another player who will really benefit from a solid player like Pahlinha behind them...

His short-passing is actually really good (high percentage of accomplishment) and I think he will allow the likes of Bergy to develop into deep lying carries/playmakers. The insurance of a player like Palhinha will help us across the board, especially if we do something stupid again in this...

As you know I also think he'd be great; really wanted him last summer...

I see that, and I still think he could become an excellent roving playmaker from a deeper position, again providing we have the right balance around him. He will always be more exposed in such a role right now because as we now, none of our options there are particularly 'sixy'...

Right. Which is why I would not be against signing a specialist like Palinha so as Bergy can develop his identity alongside that level of 'safety'...

If he's starting as part of a pair in a 4-2-3-1, and his partner is more 'defensively minded' then I think he could really excel over the next two years. I know it isn't everyone's cup of tea, but if you had a destroyer like Palinha next to him, I think it could be a fine thing...in fairness...

I really think Bergy could excel in such a role providing the quality is next to him..:

The thing we have to also remember is how our squad balances out for all the competitions. I've been over it several times and still bamboozle myself. The outgoings and incomings have to be helpful with regard to homegrown. Squad balance alone is why IMO unless Donley has an awful tour, he will...

Agreed. Isak would probably be more long-term? Osimhen would be incredible for two seasons before likely looking to go elsewhere, but I agree, he is an absolute goal machine who would be a game changer for us in so many ways...

...and Modric. What a signing. Let's get THAT scout out of storage and send him globe-trotting again!!!!!

These are great discussions IMO; they challenge some deeper thought on certain targets. Eze, for example, is probably right about at his peak and he would be a good pickup for us. I wanted him two seasons ago. Having said that, and taking onboard yours, Libs, and Bishop's input, there's a very...

Cannot disagree, again I think we still have to ultimately be smart in the type of player we recruit generally (which is of course common sense!)...it's that balance between a player whose Prem credentials you've seen versus a talent whose Prem credentials have not been seen/tested.

I think that's a great list to highlight how we buy good but not great title-winning players (makes what we did last season all the more incongruous TBH)...I actually think Johnson has a higher ceiling than the others in terms of being a finisher/I still think he could play the 'Dele ghosting'...

As long as the scouting is spot-on. We have made as many average European-based signings, if not more. Njie, NKoudou, Stambouli, Janssen, Gil, Ndombele, Lo Celso, those are just a few. Prem teams might have to sell for PSR reasons, so there will be opportunities.

Interesting, who are you thinking of specifically? Not necessarily disagreeing (or agreeing!) just interested in more context/detail...
