Look at the numbers for all of them in the three seasons prior to their signing. But more than that, at the time Klinsmann was considered maybe past his best, he was in his 30's, injuries were becoming more prevalent. He was then what maybe Son is now.

He was a player who had had lean seasons in both Italy and France, and had some injury issues. I’m sure other clubs passed on him before we got there. VDV definitely in the ball park, and as I said earlier, Rebrov and Soldado too. Berbatov would be another example.

There were huge question marks over Klinsmann at the time, he’d had injuries and a poor time in Italy, it was more of a punt than the likes of Rebrov and Soldado were in latter years. It only works when it works.

There has to be a line somewhere, using Gallagher as an example, moving from a club that considers us a rival, and quite frankly hate us, to one of the biggest clubs in Spain, maybe we could have thrown enough money at both club and player to charge minds, but would it have been worth it, what...

Players might not want to come here, irrespective of how much we offer, clubs might not want to sell to us if they perceive us as a rival. Being fully backed doesn’t mean getting your preferred player in every slot, even Pep never got that. Managers have to be able to work with alternatives...

Not always not worked out because of them though. Rebrov was an exceptional footballer for example, the reason it didn’t work, was that the only player in the squad anywhere near his level, was our right back. I think the lesson there is don’t go too good to early, slowly iterate. The...

Yep, just give Vic a pay rise and he’ll concede fewer goals. Simples. Or bring our turnover down and pay the same out. Instant success.

you are right of course, its not overall, but 4 defeats in a row is an absolute crisis for them, its the worst run of Pep's career

I love those ideas too, and that’s how kids should be coached, that’s what sport is all about. The Premier League isn’t sport, and that won’t work here.

I’m not interested in relative levels of kamikaze defending. Others being brick doesn’t justify us doing the same.

I think it’s the opposite, I’d give more time to the person at least trying to keep goals out, making games boring reduces the chances of losing.
