Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

In the unlikely event that such an extreme set of circumstances were to actually come together wouldn't an abstention, 'encouraged' if necessary, be a sensible middle ground?

    Coronavirus

Yes that was my understanding too, which is what a lot of my feeling was based on. There was also the recent story about English hospitals potentially overreporting covid deaths. Something tells me not too many other countries will end up being accused of that...

    Coronavirus

If and when we ever get to a point where the truth outs regarding numbers, my money will be on our government's 'official' numbers being closer to reality than almost any other country...

    Coronavirus

It's a by-product of delaying/supressing widespread infection - it buys time for more effective treatments to become available. It's already happened. Hopefully it will continue to happen. New Zealand will be far better placed to deal with a spike now than it would have been in March.

I'm pretty sure anyone who has benefitted from remdesivir or dexamethasone would speak rather more highly of a delay-based strategy.

Depends on what is meant by 'blame'. I think if it means fair criticism based on objective analysis, combined with personal responsibility, that's about the best place you can be. On the other hand, I have a friend in the north-west who is currently calling the government from pigs to dogs over...

He's lived there for years and has never been any problem at all until this. There's an abundance of selfish clams around (including certain other neighbours of mine), but this guy ain't one of them. Pretty sure there's something going on with him.

    Best music streaming service.

Did the same in the mid 90's, worse still to dealers. So for roughly half what it was actually worth. To put the cherry on the insult-covered injury, I seem to remember spending some of the proceeds on one of the worst Spurs shirts ever, about 3 sizes too big for me...

    Coronavirus

Pretty certain this applies to a fairly close neighbour of mine. He's been no bother whatsoever for years, but since a few weeks into lockdown he's been blasting music at ridiculous volumes and at ridiculous hours. Hard not to draw the obvious conclusion...

    The Cricket Thread

Those stats are quite eye-opening, it doesn't seem 5 minutes to me since Anderson went past Botham's 383, with Beefy there watching... Time flies.

    Best live experience

Probably a controversial view, but I enjoyed seeing Axl's 'fake' line-up, circa 2010, much more than I did the 're-union' in 2017. The latter had a very artificial feeling about it to me - it just didn't feel quite right. It probably didn't help that despite being less than halfway back, we were...

No, world class in terms of biomedical contribution seems to be their argument, with dexamethasone and vaccine research being cases in point.

A few on here will absolutely love this...:D https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2020-07-22/british-response-to-covid-19-has-been-world-class I think it's a subscriber only piece, but the headline gives the general idea...

    *** The Official Boxing/UFC/MMA thread ***

Got to say I'm not a fan of this newfound trend for announcing multi-fight agreements ahead of time. What if one of them blows the other away in a round or two? It's already caused an issue with the unnecessary Fury/Wilder 3rd fight. Or have promoters just completely given up trying to hide...

    Coronavirus

Not related to travel, but my company's insurer inserted a covid exclusion clause at renewal time (and still had the cheek to raise the premium). We had no serious alternative but to go elsewhere, but options weren't exactly abundant. Think this might have the potential to become a bit of an...

    Black Lives Matter

Referring to a group of police officers, not all of whom are white as "white police officers", is clearly incorrect. It's also unhelpful to say the least when tensions are running as high as they have been. I never claimed to be offended by this, those are your words. I just like my 'facts'...

I was surprised Spain made it onto the green list in the first place - haven't they been experiencing spikes/local lockdowns pretty much ever since the quarantine requirements were lowered?

Sick sick world what is wrong with people

Why does this remind me of that scene in the Big Short where Brad Pitt is coming down the escalator at the airport...?
