Roberto De Zerbi *OFFICIAL*

But the line up was largely made up of manager approved and fan approved players in the back 2/3 with players that have played and won games in the front 1/3.

I don't rate 2 of the front 3, but we didn't get hammered today and look all at sea at the back because of Richy, Moore and Tel.
I can't speak for fan approved but for me any team that has all of Tel, Gallagher, Richy, Moore, Gray and Bergvall in the same starting lineup is a team destined to struggle. I know thats an unpopular opinion but these are average to low quality performers and thats more than half the starting 11! Play them in the 11 all season and we will 100% play Championship football next year.😅

I don't put the blame on the front 3 today at all even thoughI don't rate them, the blame is the fault of the midfield and De Zerbi mainly for picking that midfield. I'd go as far as to say that he was a little deluded if he thought that the midfield he selected was going to be up to par.

He had a massively bad day at the office and looked flat

Also highlights why the argument that Richarlison can just play as a finisher in the box is flawed.

A striker who can't hold the ball, especially away from home just ends up with your team under constant pressure. Think how Kane would bring those in, win the free kick or clip it round the corner to start an attack. Instead we're playing through balls to the other team.

I was saying this in another thread yesterday, he actively limits our ability to attack because he loses it contantly. Today he lost it and it led directly to their goal (not blaming him, but he played his part).

Not having an out-ball is a big problem. Kudus is a good option, so is Kulu, even Solanke is better than Richy. If we can’t play through the opposition’s press then this is our only option. And if we lose it every time then it allows them to press even more aggressively.

Starting Bergvall over Fernandes was the biggest mistake for me (especially with Richy playing up front) meaning we needed to be better at playing through their press). He was partly at fault for both the first two goals. He didn’t track his runner for the first and gifted possession for the second. Sorry but I don’t think he’s an 8 until he can play better defensively and prove himself press resistant. He obviously has talent but the difference between Bents and Fernandes coming on was quite telling.

Actually don't think it was a one player problem, it was you can't play Bergvall, Gray, Moore and Richi against a team that works that hard, is that direct and physical. Add in us being undercooked fitness wise, it was a mistake.

Right side was terrible, and yet Moore had two 1:1's with keeper in box that he fluffed.

I agree he had a poor game but the second goal is harsh. He actually holds the ball for several seconds waiting for some sign of life or help. Bergvall is trotting towards him!!!!!! He ends up losing the ball, then Bergy tries that noodle challenge and gets laughed at.

My point was that RDZ had options in midfield whereas he was playing the only fit three attacking players and RB he had available. Playing Moore with Gray on the right side was never going to win us the game so we needed to be solid through the middle. Playing Bergvall ahead of Fernandes and Bentancur was the biggest mistake as it was avoidable whereas he had no alternatives with the other players you mentioned.

rdz is a smart man, and i assume he knows what he is doing. it was a very inexperienced squad - tel, bergvall, gray and moore at the same time was just strange, especially for an away game. the players looked slow and lethargic, and rdz complained about the Australia trip taking out valuable training time.

disappointing first game, however, dezerbi teams do take a while to click - at brighton he failed to win in his first five games. i think his system is too intricate for most players and you find that out on matchday when things are really going at match pace.

de zerbi left brighton and the epl mid of 2024 - its been two years since and a lot of teams are already playing the third man combos and consequentlly, many teams know how to deal with it.

i wonder how dezerbi is adapting to it. not just brentford but hull city showed man u that man marking and balls over the top can neutralize intricate football

Kudus for Ange for somehow getting that to work.

Ermm remove Tel from there. Playing Gallagher as a CAM, Moore as RW, Richarlison as ST, Bergvall in DM is foundation for a disaster. I am fine with Tel on LW.

You're entitled to your opinion but I very much disagree. All of the players I listed are a problem especially if they all start. You can possibly get away with 1 or 2 of them depending on who else is starting but they all have pretty low floors imo.

Did you not think that he actually looked way better on the right when he switched. It got me wondering.
