Cristian Romero

It's cliché but height doesn't really have much to say in heading prowess. Cannarvo was fantastic header of the ball, winning virtually everything against everyone and he was only 5ft9. Paul Parker was also short and basically never lost a heading duel. Even Romero is only 6ft, relatively short for a CB and he wins his lions share of heading fuels. Defensive heading ability is more about anticipation and reading the flight if the ball than it is to do with pure height.
Tim Cahill. 5f10. 22 headed goals. All about timing and being strong.

My reading of it too.

There were elements of his performance in the Forest game that were disgraceful really. On Sunday, he again confused commitment with brainlessly running around (the bizarre attempt to defend with a scorpion kick, the revenge tackle that was always going to happen as soon as he was fouled).

IMO he’s no loss at this stage as he’s not what’s required in our back line in a relegation battle (although it’s all probably a moot point now tbh).
As someone who grew up playing in the 80s, if an opposition player put one in on you, you were inclined to give one back to show you weren’t going to be intimidated. Whether you appreciate it or not, Romero is a bit of a throwback to that era.

I think we will once again see massive issues moving the ball unless DeZerbi makes it paramount that we quickly move the ball to Gray/Bergvall/Sarr/Biss fast and then top Xavi. We will lose passes through the lines and we cannot afford to try and invite a press on to play through it...Danso is a fine box defender though.
While he isn’t the passer that Romero is, I still rate him as perfectly good enough in that area of his game. He is a very good all round footballer and I believe he’s underrated simply because he’s our third choice option.
