Gutter Boy

This is all very depressing ain’t it
It just inevitable when you have owners who don't care and are just phoning it in till they can cash out
This is all very depressing ain’t it
We never agreed a fee with them. The deal was agreed but his chairman went back on it. Fernandes was distraught at the time. I remember there was more than a whiff of suggestion that there was inducement to play us along because Man Utd would be able to have a go in the summer
“It was 'impossible' to retain Bruno Fernandes, but we did it. We prepared for his sale by putting a fair price on him, and we had bids, but the only serious offer was from Tottenham and that was €45 million (£40m/$50m) plus another €20m (£18m/$22m) in bonuses for winning the Premier League and the Champions League.
“Those are difficult objectives, so we chose not to accept.
“Bruno Fernandes proved to be not only a great player but a great professional and captain. The dignity and responsibility that he has always shown is exemplary.
“The day I turned down Tottenham's proposal, I came to the training ground and spoke to him. I told him why I declined the offer and why he would stay here beyond the end of the market and he understood perfectly.
“In addition, he also understood that the bid they offered us was not fair. He's not leaving, he's a Sporting player. Many European clubs want him and we know this is something we will always have
"I have to be flattered that Sporting does not accept values that for them are low and for me it has to be proud of the club to think I'm worth more."
The new man hasn't been able to arrest the problems we already have. It just demonstrates that the problems we have are deep set and no quick fix is applicable.I thought the idea of sacking the manager who actually managed to win us something to bring a new manager in was to improve our league form?
Now all the narrative ever is is one of 'Well we haven't been good for a while anyway'.....
I won't debate the correctness of the sending off, but I wonder if I saw the same thing as so many others? I heard the commentators repeatedly refer to the action as a "tackle" or a "challenge," whereas I saw a follow-through (reckless or otherwise) from a pass by the player with ball.
This is the Guardian's version: "Romero retaining his place backfired with his X-rated challenge on Casemiro. Outside Spurs’ area the ball ran to the Manchester United midfielder only for the Argentinian to stamp on his left ankle."
Really? A challenge on Casemiro, to whom the ball had run?! Perception is everything.
For me these "signs of progress" are only symbolic of how bad we've been of late.
This is still really poor.
Not sure about Dragusin. Has been poor in the last 2 games. A lot of that will be down to rustiness, but I thought their first goal was as cowardly an attempt to defend as I have seen from a defender. We've had a brick load of games to see what life without Romero is like already, this isn't his first suspension
I'm comfortable with selling him, we would get a good fee and we have solid defenders in Danso, Dragusin and potentially could look at the very talented Vuskovic. Sure Romero is good on the ball, but that's not enough to outweigh the rest of his game for me....
The decision to appoint TF if it doesn't work out is not evidence that it was wrong to sack Ange. We saw the same issues last season in the league. Ange was not good enough; beating teams in the EL doesn't prove he is. TF has also excelled against teams of the same level this season in the CL. We need a manager who can actually improve us in the PL as I don't think this team is as bad as we are showing.I thought the idea of sacking the manager who actually managed to win us something to bring a new manager in was to improve our league form?

We might have lost anyway. But it seem like we were a match for them. Possibly another draw with a full compliment.
The positives - which have been developing for the last 15 games - is our build up play. Genuinely better than most teams at passing the ball around. Partly due to Xavi finding his rhythm. And Gallagher helps too. Idk why the lamenters think this fast moving passing style is ugly to watch.
The bits that need fixing are the critical areas at both ends of the pitch. We make mistakes in defence - Romero today. And could Vic have got to their first goal? The main issue is we have to do better getting the ball into the oppositions net.
I’ll take away the spells where we dominated possession and worked the ball through them with pace in the first 30, we looked the better side in spells.
He will be the best cb in the Championship, or playing in Spain.I actually think Poch could turn him into the best CB in the world next season. Bring the best out of him mentally. Sadly it will be Arbeloa's job to attempt that.
That was the aim. Made no sense to continue on after 18 months of poor PL form and terrible, naive performances. Hasn’t worked out as yet - and maybe it won’t. Doesn’t make the original decision any less correct though.
I’ve seen it numerous times Steff and I’ve come to the same conclusion every time. Romero just can’t help himself when he has a chance to injure a Brazilian. I would have put money on it being Cunha rather than Colin Casemiro though.
I think that's completely accurate....but often times Romero goes in with extra unnecessary force. It's part of his tough guy persona (which I'm happy with btw) and this type of tackle and a red is a negative consequence.
The self inflicted problem is that it peaks the officials interest, in that yes he passes the test that he got the ball and his foot was low BUT solely due to HIMSELF he fails the unnecessary force and endangering an opponent element
I, too, have watched it on many, many occasions and I actually cannot fathom how anyone who does not personally know for sure could gravitate to the same old cliche trope time and time again. Again, I ask, where is his foot going to go given that he's actually the one who has possession and is kicking the ball, and it is Casemiro who steps in to try and block it? Or are you telling me, seriously, that as he got away from the first challenge with the ball, his only thought was , "Great, I see a Brazillian coming so screw the ball I'm going to make sure I time my attempted pass so perfectly that I can also land one on him and hopefully injure him?" ALL in 3 seconds?
It's a yellow on any other player IMO. Because it's Romero, and because of Casemiro's writhing and rolling, it was never going to be anything else I suppose.
It hardly matters anymore.
This forum generally doesn't appreciate him.
He has a nasty narrative around him (players such as Caicedo and Joelinton get away with far worse regularly).
The club have fu-cked this up from weeks ago, when they should've got a hold and handle on him. In fact, I'd argue the club have fu-cked this up in a far wider way across the board than just their total inability to deal with a frustrated skipper. Frank was hung out to dry this week, for sure, and the club AGAIN avoided saying anything, instead leaving Frank to deal with it. I tell you this much, if Simon Feldstein was still doing the press duties for the manager, you'd never, ever see what's happening now.
Steff, Romero himself has apologised to his teammates. Do you not think that in itself is damning? He’s basically admitted he deserved to be sent off. As I said in another post, if you don’t want referees to NOT give you the benefit of the doubt over tackles like that then don’t get a reputation for being a dirty player in the first place.
