Mathys Tel

I’m not really seeing a lot from him…runs around, but loses possession too often, his crossing is average at best, and he ought to have hit the target at the very least with that chance early on yesterday. He’s made a number of bad decisions in the box in recent games.

Young and learning, of course, but a sad reflection that we’re increasingly relying on him as a starter.
odobert doesn't do anything unless there is a clear path to run into

he is scared to take risks, scared to get tackled

Odobert doesn't play well on the right at all he only plays reasonably well on the left (and sometimes the centre), he and Tel are fighting for the same position of LWF. Odobert is a little more versatile so he is getting minutes in the right but he's pretty awful there.
tel is better than odobert anywhere except completion stats
that's because odobert won't try anything unless its safe
but thats what TF is looking at - the wrong stats!

It was Hobson's choice for Frank. He would have got slammed either way.

The guy Tel should be angry with is Muani. If he had been leading the line well, scoring goals and generally putting in the effort then Tel probably gets selected.

I can promise you Frank would have happily selected both Solanke and Tel and left Muani out.
Just as happily as he subbed Tel instead of Muani against West Ham? (Surely by then knowing that Tel would be dropped back out from the CL squad? Just as happily as he's played Muani almost twice as much in the league as Tel?

Agreed that it was probably a difficult decision either way.

Just another reason why Frank should have gone straight after West Ham. He's got no future, but he's going to rob us of Tel's as well now.
Have had some concerns about him being really focused on the next game and not rotating much when under pressure. Potentially contributing to the injuries of Kudus and Bentancur as well as the standard fatigue drop in form from Porro.

Have some even bigger concerns about these things for Dortmund now. Solanke, Simons, Porro, Romero. "Luckily" VdV gets a forced rare breather.

If we need a result in the Frankfurt game I'd rather be relying on Solanke for a goal than Tel - if it was a call that had to be made now rather than delayed till then that's enough to swing it for me.

Just one of those calls that people will jump on to add to the negativity

It's a poor call in the circumstances. We could've waited for February. Frank has made the change because of the Dortmund match IMO, and it appears he is pinning a lot of hope on a guy who is at least two weeks away from proper match fitness, whilst binning off a player who has shown he can being something to the table. It's poor man management, and he doesn't have many to mismanage these days.
You can it is 'adding to the negativity' and I think you're absolutely right. Whose fault is that?!!!

It's clear to me.
Tel has talent, and if he was playing under a manager who believed in him, I believe we'd be seeing a really good player unfolding.
Instead, we've seen a manager repeatedly treat this player poorly.
I think it's pathetic.
I also think it's madness to believe that Solanke is going to be match-fit. He won't be. It will have to be gradual.
As for people hoping he is the answer, with respects, he is not OG Ronaldo, and where do people think his service is going to come from?
Slingers from Pedro?
Long balls from the back?
Or do we think he is the more likely CF to turn those long throws into goals?
It's tinkle-poor, and if I was Tel, I'd have my agent making sure this is all somewhat academic in terms of Frank being here too much longer, otherwise I'd want out now, and we will see a talented young player enjoy their football elsewhere...

And he won't be the only one, the board better wise up quick, we're running full speed into a wall.

Tel hasn't been perfect but last few weeks, he's shown something very few players have. He wants the ball, he wants to attack the opposition. Something hardly any of our players have shown. I really hope the next manager gives him to show that ability.

Clearly because he wants the ball and wants to attack, Frank doesn't like him.

Exactly. It’s like some fuking grannies knitting club: oohhhhhhh he left out Tel, what a naughty man! 😅

Frank has to pick the side to win the game. Solanke an out an out striker and we need goals. Had Tel converted against Wham, maybe it’d be a different story.

Think it's a desperate move tbh
