Xavi Simons

He is getting better but there were times he was on the break and nobody ahead of him
Yeah, They were mentioning it on commentary too. He was trying to make things happen and could tell he wanted more from others around him.

Did you see when one of the CBs had the ball Xavi was shouting at Palinha to go and get it because Palinha was wandering out to the right hand side! You could see him thinking "How am I gonna get on the ball if he doesn't even want to take the ball from the CBs!?"

No missed that!
And I guess then this is also the problem with some of our players having a better footballing brain along with technique than others.

If they are not on same level then another reason our attacks break down. Along with that and tinkle poor finishing

Liked the fact he was battling for the ball yesterday far more and it's good he has the CL this season to show his class. He has a lovely shimmy but then not the pace or power to get away (or the options to play a quick pass forwards which I'm sure he's capable of). If you look at how long it took Frank to get a tune out of Damsgaard (a similar whispy player) I think we need patience with Xavi and Frank. I really like seeing a manager build with a team of youngsters though I get frustrated too when we don't get results. I'm trying to temper that in calmer moments with the fact that I don't expect Top 5 this season and young players need time.

We don't have a team of youngsters. Of our team yesterday Simons at 22 you could say and at a stretch Sarr at 23 but it's not a young team - there is a hell of a lot of experience there - Vicario, Porro, Romero, Bentancur, Palhina and others have all played a hell of a lot of football....

Hopefully when Solanke is finally back and Muani is match sharp then Xavi will have some movement up front to play some through-balls into…

I guess the initial break we're too slow getting up to support him so he has no options. It's kind of what happens sometimes, but one could ask where is the run like the one Romero made against Copenhagen.

The second phase when the ball is returned to him is imo worse. I know play goes on from there and probably someone will join in the attacking at some point? But still. Spence slowly getting barely ahead of Palhinha, Sarr and Porro. No urgency in making off the ball forward runs.

It's fine and even necessary to slow it down sometimes. But the instincts of all our back four and two deep midfielders seems to be too be in position in case we lose the ball.
