Wife was away this weekend, so I took the opportunity to watch a few movies she wouldn't have liked.
First one out was The zone of interest, which I found very disturbing, but also very good. The constant background noise from the concentration camp combined with the depiction of everyday events from the Auswich boss' family life was a brilliant piece of moviemaking. At times I felt physically unwell. That contrast absolutely made the movie. Also some obvious parallells to current events, which felt kinda scary.
Second was The Substance, a completely different movie, but enjoyable. Great satire and great acting, I think. A very creative spin on how society views aging in women. Plot was a bit shaky and illogical at times, even considering the peculiar starting premise, but it wasn't too annoying. Loved the references to the old horror movies; The shining, Carrie, The fly and The thing, to name a couple.
