James Maddison

Maddison, Bissouma, Romero, and Richarlison were all in 'couldn't be relied upon for a performance' bracket, but when it mattered in the Europa League, they could all be relied upon.

I agree.
Bissouma especially showed up and showed people like me that he can hit great heights. I have to now think that with the paradigm shift these players have created, the squad needs augmentation in key areas rather than churn. The Europa journey (all 15 games of it) will have been like going to Winners University, and I expect all the players -including some I personally doubted had it in them- to show new dimensions to their characters.

I love it when I'm proiven wrong because we win. Bissouma and Maddison, hats off!

Must admit it does come across as rather petty of Maddison to be squabbling online with everyone who’s dissed him in the past instead of being magnanimous in victory like Son.

Don’t recall even master windup merchant Lamela indulging in such antics after he won the Europa League.
Post-match he was being interviewed by Keane and Carragher and he did specifically say that the pundits who'd been going in hard on Spurs and him were used as motivation. He referenced how people mocked when he joined Spurs and so he resolved at that time to win something.
So if it's been that extra driver for him, then I suppose this is the fruition of it.

I have to say I have found my views on him changing in the last month or so. Shows that we're all wrong sometimes, and I certainly have been with regards to his importance to the dressing room and also the fact he seems to really be a good bloke who looks to do the right things. Consider me self-rebuked!

It's also that people change as they get older. When he was younger, by all possible accounts he was an unlikeable, self-obsessed tit.

Becoming a family man seems to have dramatically changed him for the better, and he's a lot more measured and even-toned these days. Glad for him, because underneath the stereotypes of a Premier League footballer, he's actually an intelligent and very well-spoken bloke.

Also a very good footballer who started like a train with us before struggling with injuries. He's the most creative player in the squad for me by some distance.

I will hold my hands up as say the same, never been a big fan of his but as a person he really seems a great guy.
