***OMT*** Tottenham...Thursday Night In Frankfurt

In about 1978 I was I was at The Hawthorns to watch Spurs play West Bromwich Albion...

It was a nightmare.... Within 2 minutes we only went and bloody scored - Peter Taylor I think it was... I immediately thought that this was going to be a long afternoon as even then I thought that we are always much better when we are a goal down.... We were rubbish for the rest of the game but hung on to win 1 nil...

We should have beaten Frankfurt last week but 45 years on we are still much better if chasing the game rather than trying to defend a lead.... For that strange reason I feel slightly more confident in us actually producing a positive performance and winning the game than if we went out trying to defend a lead. I was also out in Frankfurt in 1982 when we went through in the Cup Winners Cup so that also gives me hope we can do it again...

At the end of full time in the 1966 world cup final Sir Alf said to the players something like " you've won it once and now go out and win it again".... It seemed to work!

Great start to the thread and Come on you beautiful Spurs..

Ok, i'll suspend disbelief: option 1 please

Keep it simple, no crazy pressing from the back 4 that leaves us exposed.

Have 2 holding CM's (would like to see Bentancur and Gray, but that's a big ask to dump gray in there just now) to help cover their breaks. Would also give a bit more space for the front 3 and the acm, and fullbacks to get into.

Stop trying to play out from the back of they are pressing us that high.

When we have the ball, drop some players back so we don't play a 2,1,7 formation... No option for the person with the ball, no space for the 7 standing up front...

That's the short version :tearsofjoy:

Thanks. Right, so what do you think will likely happen...?

"German police, doesn't do their job, tsk tsk" - as if terrorizing these poor souls are going to help them or deter any gang from dealing. This doesn't look too dissimilar from the areas around Oslo's central station, to be honest. I thought every big city had them.

Anyways - I hope Kulu starts, but heard Nathan on the Extra Inch said Ange supposedly had hinted of him not starting. It'll probably be Son and Johnson starting, but sure hope we can get Kulu and Moore (or Odobert, if fit) on as soon as possible.

Can anyone say how we can win? i mean tactically...

No, quite simply the only route is "one of those nights" where nothing goes for them, and it goes in off someone's ass for us.

We are too easy to play against, too predictable and when we try to adapt it shows that we have no experience with any other way of playing.

It's why (my opinion), firing him and even giving a caretaker the game made more sense, at worst it gives the opposition something to think about, a generic 4-2-3-1, closing the spaces, giving Solanke support and allowing the wide attacking mids to come in more would be more likely to get result that schoolyard rush.
