OMT ** Tottenham Hotspur v AZ 13.03.2025 **

Questions:

1 Does anyone have faith that we will go through? If so, how will we tactically from what has been seen in our recent games, particularly the game last week?
2 How much will we miss Danso? Do AZ have big aerial threats?
3 IF we do lose, would any of you fire Ange during the international break?
I think we’ll win and go through. Either way I would say Ange is here until the end of the season as sacking him tomorrow would most probably leave us without a permanent manager for about 3 months for the third time in 5(?) years, subjecting Levy to the same ridicule he’s previously endured and I don’t think he’ll want that.

I had been expecting us to “turn a corner” but on recent showings I just don’t think that’s going to happen anytime soon.

Think we’ll get through just on pure determination. The players will realise a loss here is failure and whilst we’ll have the same tactical problems as usual we should have enough ability to get a result.

Then it’s just the question of if we can scrape through further in this tournament, don’t expect us to change anything about how we play.

I agree

We are not missing Romero defensively whatsoever, he fudges up as much as any of our defenders. However, in games like this where the onus will be on us to play the football his passing will definitely be welcome....
Defensively, he's never been a world-beater (funny thing is, I talked with an Argentina fan not long ago and his assessment of Romero was the polar opposite of the general consensus on here) but his ability to beat the press is a huge asset, in my opinion. Still think he'd make a much better defensive midfielder but it is what it is.

Right I have some good news for everyone. My son and some mates are going to the game but one of them has had to drop out so I am taking the option of his ticket. Whats the good news about that you ask? Since we moved to the new ground when my son and I have been to the ground together together the only defeat we have seen was last seasons NLD . All the other games we have been to together have been wins so I am now filled with a good feeling for tomorrows game. We are going to win and go through. You can slate me tomorrow if we don`t but I am more optimistic now.
COYS
So, when you and your son go to games together, we win all games, except some..
Well that's filled me with confidence!

Something #tommysvr (I think) said last week resonated with me actually. With this current Spurs setup under Ange, nobody should be surprised if we win comfortably or get stuffed. It is just how things roll under this manager. It is that consistency thing that we often discuss. It seems very hard with this tactical system to find it so the games are a lottery.

I have a feeling that this will be one of the games where things click though. Home advantage is key.

Lets hope you are right and things click. One thing I am curious about is, ever since Ange arrived people have constantly claimed 'We are going to get stuffed playing the way we do'. Yet this season as pretty much last season, bar the Liverpool games literally no team has beaten us by more than a single goal (and no, I'm not saying that should be some sort of badge of honour). Why, if as is so often claimed we are so easy to play against can almost any team only beat us by such a small margin? Genuinely curious....

1. Its blind faith that makes us turn up each week, I HOPE we win every game.
2. Parrott is a strong player who wins his share of headers, he had an anonymous game at the Lane earlier and will want to show what he can do.
3. No.

Cause of the amount of chances we give up v the amount of chances we create would be my answer. At no point do I ever feel that we have a game under control and will see it out without incident.

Yes we quite obviously play a risk/reward game, but you are just saying how you feel/what you think you see - doesn't really answer why hardly anyone can beat us by more than a single goal. Yet looking at xG/xGa it certainly doesn't suggest we are coughing up more chances than we are creating. Of course these sort of stats aren't the be all and end all but does tally up with our actual results and why we don't actually get spanked despite some painting a picture of what could/should be happening to us week in week out:

I don't mind the Xg stat but it can be a bit misleading. In recent weeks (Ipswich, City , AZ, Bournemouth) we are giving up a lot of quality chances very early in the games. We may create our own chances later on which even out the Xg but that doesn't change the fact that we could have been 3 down if not for profligate finishing and of course big Vic!
Late goals when the game is dead (Chelsea at Home, Everton away, Villa in the cup) can make batterings look like close games.
Bournemouth have destroyed us twice without the result to show it. Palace and Galatasaray away could also have been very ugly.

So that's why some, myself included have been regularly alarmed by our performances and the chances we cough up even if the results don't ultimately show it.

Yes, and to be clear I'm not trying to suggest our performances have been great - I'm just curious as to why we never take a beating. And absolutely agree there have been results where could have been worse, but there have been performances where could have been better too especially earlier in the season.

It's all well and good saying we would have conceded more if not for this or that, but we could also have scored more were it not for keepers/defenders performing well against us. But just find it quite a curious stat, appreciate the response....

Yes, I agree and it is a curious stat. We (generally) win big and lose small. But then this whole season has been a curious/bonkers mindfudge!

We have only seen one defeat at the new ground. All the others have been good wins. No draws, so yes I am feeling confident. As long as we don't start like we did against Bournemouth lol!

So what you're saying is that you don't mind the stats, as long as they are in line with your view.
"but they could have scored bla bla bla"
Yeah, and so could we. Doesn't change anything. The stats show what actually happens.
If my aunt had a dingdong etc....
