Dejan Kulusevski

A mid season break
There was talk that it’s something Pep does for certain players
Haaland being one
They just a weekend off but know in advance so as soon as the last game has finished their off on a jet plane

That's a good call. I said the other day we have our squad split into the ones like Kulu who need a rest, the ones like Johnson who need to be training and the ones in the middle like Bents that are probably just in normal mode.

I can imagine after a Sat 3pm game you could be somewhere warm as you wake up on the Sunday morning. We can give Kulu a copy of Perryman's book on his way out as well. Good poolside reading.

I'd love to know what it would take to get Kulu and Porro back to "fresh". Can it happen naturally by just getting into a one game a week cadence for a few weeks? Do they need to start playing only 60 mins, or even alternating between bench and playing? If so, how long?

As #thfcsteff said on another thread, we don't need to see any more data to know they're knackered. I'd be more interested in knowing the diagnostic data at its lowest and how it improves back to full freshness again. Of course we'll never get to see players data.
I guess we'll see in the next couple of games if a couple of weeks without a midweek game makes any difference. Personally I think it will make some difference, but back to "fresh" not so sure.

It's strange that before Christmas time there was an interview where he said his super power was his fitness and how he knows he can run all game and never give up where others do.. fast forward a couple of months and an injury crisis and we have seemingly flogged him to death. Hopefully he can get a bit more rest now players are coming back and we can get the best version of him every week

Lets hope so, we really have flogged him to death [ at least it looks that way]. I said a couple of weeks back that he was our player of the season so far so i hope he gets a rest and returns to his best.

Someone needs to step up and be a better player than Kulusevski is playing at 50-60%

I think he needs to stay in the team until Solanke is back, as we don't have anyone else with his strength at the moment.

Results will also help, I thought he should have been off as soon as we were 3-1 up but I guess we needed the win so bad.

Said it in the Ange thread, feel we are going to need to change priorities, there will be a PL game where we may need to not start/play Deki in order for him to be his best for a EL SF type game

I hope we do this. I can't see us getting top 6, and we're not getting relegated, so why not plan the rest of our season around the EL? I'm not sure we've had that luxury before, we've always had to prioritise the league position. I would certainly welcome fielding a weakened team against anyone in the PL, in order to play our strongest side in Europe.

We never have ..

I think it's the smart choices, e.g. you can play Deki against City because we don't play until the following midweek, but you might want to rest him against Bournemouth because you have 2nd leg 4 days later.

Yep, he's ground himself to dust. Fingers crossed it is just extreme fatigue and he can come back in a few weeks, rather than a fracture like Nathan Ake had for months.

I wonder how many top level players have featured in more than 60 consecutive matches.

…Incredibly, it will be the first game in well over a year that the Sweden international has missed for us. Not since our 2-2 Premier League draw away at Manchester United in January, 2024, has he missed one of our matches – a run of 60 games.
