Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

Indeed. Not expecting a level playing field, it is more the model they have used to fund the future social requirements of retirement/pensions etc.
I just mean they have an abundance of natural resources and just 6m people to look after....hence now having a sovereign wealth fund knocking for $2.5 trillion dollars.... which can only suggest they have, and have had, a massive surplus of cash. Pretty much the opposite to us.

I don't know the full history but people often say we didn't realise any benefits from the North Sea, all those proceeds were spent elsewhere on infrastructure, NHS etc. Perhaps we should have obtained more by keeping it under public ownership but there's zero chance any government would have just left the money sitting there in a wealth fund, the temptation to dip into it would always have been there.

I’d like us to to say fudge it we’re going to pump our bit of the Antarctic dry. Tens of trillions of quids worth of oil just sitting there I hear.

It’ll be a nice place to live once it’s all been burned.

I don't think we have any lithium or cobalt or minerals of the present and future. Just some measly dregs left of the ones for last century
What is the major economic asset the UK Govt. could tie their mast to? Is it the banks?

In Anthropic’s IPO filing they are proposing a portion of ownership goes to the US Govt when they hit certain financial KPIs. Could the UK Govt do something similar with the City?

R&D. Our universities were the best in the world till about 5 years ago when their funding got cut. Biosciences, advance manufacturing, material engineering etc

Sounds a bit like communism

Privately operated. The Govt. is merely a non-voting shareholder. This way, when the Govt intercedes in favor of those companies, the population also benefit.

For example, if the US Govt had part-ownership in the US oil companies, the domestic population would benefit from the global geopolitical actions taken by the Govt. in which the oil companies benefit (ie. every foreign war since Vietnam).

I wonder why they are proposing that. Roll eyes.
Of course it ties both parties together. There are drawbacks, as in if the stock tumbles or the company goes out of business, but if the Govt were gifted the shares in the first place they won’t suffer the losses.

Not saying I’ve got a business plan in place but it would be an effective method of addressing inequality. Imagine if this could pay for universal healthcare in the US for example?

They'll have even less if EU students are able to pay the same fees as UK students, I'm sure I read universities make a loss on each UK student even at £9K a year. They're all propped up by grants and overseas fees.
