What’s everyone reading?

Ray Bradbury turning in his grave. Why do the clams destroy the books?
They have consumed most of what is human-produced on the interweb at this point, so they need more 'humanity' to consume now that half the web is AI slop. To scan the books, they have to cut the spine off so the pages can be fed into the humanity-killing machine that is AI.

Just finished ‘A Place Apart’ by Dervla Murphy. Written in 1977/78, and the best book that I’ve ever read about Northern Ireland and The Troubles.

Just finished Annie Jacobsons scenario biological war. Very good. Equally as sobering as her Nuclear war book.

Then I open social media to see reports coming from Russia about plague. Spooky. That’s what the book is about.

Halfway through World War Z also after re watching the film recently.

Also read Satsuma complex by Bob Mortimer enjoyable easy read. Light entertainment.

finished that this week myself, didn't think it was as deeply researched as the Nuclear War book but still terrifying

Yes I’d agree with that. Still pretty scary. I just find it staggering we have tinkered with such things to make them so deadly. Think it’s more scary than the Nuclear scenario because of the chaos and grim deaths that would follow.Nuclear would just be instant death for far more people than biological.

We will be our own downfall at some point I have no doubt. Humans will cause our own extinction event. By accident or by some loonie somewhere.

The great filter theory in action, perhaps.
