Naughty Emirates Marketing Project - Spot of Compo??

Absolutely, that would be the normal reaction wouldn’t it.

I think this is very much going to be like the people who work for Trump, in the sense that they had ‘respectable’ positions and see how far they go defending his line before inevitably he chucks them out.

Maybe a better way to say it is that Pep is going to be Khaldoon’s Rudy Giuliani.

Having had time to think about it I suspect that the top top bods will deny all knowledge, AKA those in the royal family and there will be execs who are incentivised to take the flack who will end up with lovely villas on Saadiyat island to lay low for the next 5 years.

Club takes its lickings and then they build back up from wherever it lays.

Similar to when Godolphin were found to have injecting its horses for performance, they denied knowing and one of the trainers took the fall https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/horse-racing/22295639

When this goes to appeal are City going to suddenly come up with new witness's which is what they did at the CAS appeal which finally swayed the panel in their favour , even so the panel was still split 4-3 and if UEFA could have used time barred eveidence no doubt City would have lost the case. The relevent paragraphs relating to the new witness's suddenly produced by City to CAS which they did not produce to UEFA in the initial enquiry. Why hide evidence and produce it later ??????????????? and did the same witness's appear in the current proceedings.

The CAS case has a different burden of proof and was time barred. And they still got fined. And it still wasn’t a majority exoneration or even close.

I think this type of story (and controversy) is on a whole different level. Plus it doesn't fit in to the desired constantly changing 24hr news cycle. Furthermore hardly any journos or fans can be arsed with the intricacies of finance and accounting... usually a blank look if discussed.
Lol, SSN is literally on constant repeat about it, wheeling out everyone and anyone to comment. Calling it the biggest scandal in British football history.

I'm not talking about the last week. Lol.

Glasgow and Deano were talking about the last 7 years of this story (well, that's how I read it). Given how massive it was (even the over hundred charges bit suggests that)...how much coverage did it get?

Probably too complicated and too much legwork for the average journo/SM guru

Heard earlier (I think on Talksport) that Sham City could be docked 38 points a season for the next three seasons
Just ridiculous (although of course it’s all speculation as they “could” be docked any number of points).
They’ve cheated the PL and its teams to the tune of ~£900M. They need to be expelled from the league with a ban on returning set for say 10 years.
What happens to them playing in the EFL is then between them and the EFL to agree - or not.

Agreed, all of this stuff about points over multiple seasons feels extremely light based on the charges. I think it comes from the fact that the scale of the cheating is so large and unprecedented, and because of City’s insistence on being ‘COMPLETELY INNOCENT OF ALL CHARGES’ just messes up how people calibrate what actually happened here. They are saying this because they want to mess people up, they want to create doubt, and I think it’s a disgrace that they’d rather burn it all down than accept their punishment. For the good of the league they need to move on.

They stole titles from other teams. They stole European adventures from other teams. They stole other teams having the opportunity to watch great players represent them instead every week. They are cooked, and rightly so. One relegation is the absolute minimum but I think it’s going to be way more than that.

The plot just thickened. Andy Burnham (also ex mayor of Manchester) has now said his piece.

No way City are not going to exist as a big Manchester and PL club moving forward. Our PM is even thanking the Sheikh for his investment into Manchester. Everyone will now find a way to give the slap on the hand and not make any massive sanctions.

Don't expect justice here,

Actually think his comments are completely thick as well. I would understand thanking the owners for the investment into the area he was responsible for, but the stuff about Everton’s punishment, ‘I think most people now think we were unfairly treated’ is just…..what?

Most people I’ve seen make the Everton joke when talking about City’s charges before the verdict, because the gag was that Everton would get punished more than City. But I don’t think it’s settled wisdom that Everton did no wrong. The whole point is that City’s charges are so egregious that it would be ridiculous for Everton to be punished more than them. Not that all charges of this nature are unfair.

So yeah…disappointing from him. Would he seriously spend political capital trying to get City off the hook though? Can’t see it.

Yeah, could be political suicide siding with the Sheikh and his merry me over his own country.

Andy Burnham might have said his piece but he is not going to intervene, sure fire vote loser and fortunately the judicial panels who will decide on the punishment are manned by ex high court judges and the like who have no problem in telling politicians where to go, UK governments have been defeated in the High Courts many times.
High Court judges also have no problem in awarding very large costs against overseas government leaders, ask Sheikh Mohammed of Dubai about his half a billion divorce case.
Lets hope the appeals panel is populated by ex judges of the Supreme, Appeals and High Courts.

Just as a fine for City from the PL or FA is no real punishment given their ownership, I hope individual clubs don't soften on what City really deserve if they sniff a large chunk of compensation is coming their way.

They've screwed around with the integrity of the game, our great game. Cheats.
I'm sick of money 'smoothing over' such situations. It doesn't speak to anything humans should hold precious.

Bizarre comments.

Genuinely. For someone who has made such an effort to be seen to be in tune with public opinion, these are very strange comments. I’d like to think it’s because of the Manchester association, he knows how much the investment has made the local area improve etc. But it does make me wonder if some sort of pressure has been applied. It reads as very odd for a man of the people type to say what he said there.
