Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

I guess they were armed with banners not bombs. Or sheep rustlers doing some good old-fashion rural crime.

Twitterati take on it all is that the “terrorists” were actually nicking fuel.
Non idea if true but will be interesting to see how this plays out.
Vans full of speakers, decks, lasers and lights.....All night rave....
White Waltham airfield 89 style.

(If only)

would be something if it turned out that was the case, even more so with trump claiming they knew about them in advance, if they were not terrorists, just people driven to desperation because of his stupid war with Iran, and that he'd lied

The private sector shouldn't be involved in healthcare, so I kind of agree with the principle. But the NHS should be expanding their provision.

Although much of the current swell is dealing with the parents who were undiagnosed a generation ago, in combination with the usual flow of kids. So it won't necessarily be a permanent expansion.

Well yeah but you can understand as a parent that if you're told there's a 2 year wait and then maybe another year after that before the results are acted on then they could be missing out for 3 or more years when they develop the fastest and would likely benefit from whatever assistance is available that parents who can afford it would go private.

I speak as a parent who has been through this, the difference is astounding, it is impossible for neurodivergent children to get a good education without an officially recognised diagnosis, impossible.

Some bold statements of intent from Burnham in his speech today.
Sounds good on the whole but he’s going to have to do a lot of persuading and have a very clear vision for implementation after the next election.

It's about time. The triple lock is crippling governments more than anything at the moment. It's just leaking more and more money back to some of the wealthiest sections of society (outside the 50 superrich families anyway)

I think we need a means tested version which means those that absolutely need it are not being eaten up with inflation and their pension not rising in line with it. Not every pensioner has a cast iron private pension or a house to sell.

Its currently double what unemployment benefit is. How is that moral? They should be the same.

And the annual increase tied to wages groups (employed, retired, unemployed) should be in the same boat, not pitted against each other

Did I say it was fair on unemployment benefit, I was making a poiny of where I think its valid for those OAPs who need it.

Thats not me saying unemployment benefit shouldn't be better

I just meant that even the poorest pensioner is getting twice as much income as any working age person. So they are all well above what we collectively have decided is the safety net level
