I think that a good proposal, I would add exclusion from being candidate for European competitions, playing in CL seems the aim of all players and that would limit who would be prepared to join them.

That would need to be a UEFA call. But a 20pt deduction each season with then having to also sell off players and compete daily would make Champs Legaue near enough impossible.

Obviously I'm not sure how entering European competitions is organised but I would have thought the governing body of the teams has some input as to who represents them.

I don’t think they have the authority to ban.

I do think they should make the FA Cup Winnerd get a spot though.

Yep, now there is massively vindication in that had others not cheated we wouod have won more being run the right way financially and people would have suffered less head loss about transfers

They shouldn't have, and there will probably be some push back once City's fate is more clear.

That said, there is a difference in sheer scale of breaches, the fact that City has actively worked against FA, threatening, using country to country trade pressure and actively stating at points that they don't believe the FA has the authority. I believe there was a report this had cost the FA somewhere in the range of 200M in just legal fees.

This is a very small window of opportunity for the FA to really act, and clean up for the future (not that I have faith in that happening)

It's bizarre really....as if a domestic league ruling body finds a club guilty of incessant cheating over a long period and that behaviour gave them an ongoing advantage, it's not like City had separate teams for PL and Uefa comps, so you'd expect Uefa to be fudged off as well that a team operated above the rules in their competition as well, and would at least back, join in or support with any punishments.

UEFA did go after City for and they got off on a technicality due to a statute of limitations in UEFAs rules.

....and that's why we are where we are.

Not what I want to happen but I wouldn't be surprised if there's back channel discussions, whether the govt would intervene behind the scenes remains to be seen.

Genuinely fascinated as to how long Khaldoon is going to keep doubling down on his ‘they are all biased, we’ve done absolutely nothing wrong’ rhetoric because at some point this just goes worse and worse for him. Like, the worry is that the UAE will put some pressure on the UK but I think it could just as easily be that his own position in the Kingdom is under threat. He will have brought them major embarrassment and they could decide to throw him under the bus.

There’s only so much fair minded people will be willing to hear the ‘of course, City say they are innocent’ arguments before it actually just becomes a massive drag on the game. Whatever small goodwill still exists towards the club and the fans who weren’t involved in the financial dealings is going to evaporate if they keep insisting on fully denying absolutely everything and insisting the panel of judges was rigged against them.

Chelsea are only guilty of one of the core charges. Paying players/agents off the books.

City are guilty of that as well as breaking FFP/PSR, Falsifying financial records and non compliance.

Said in this thread or elsewhere this is how the Emirati operate. They believe they can do as they wish and if they run in to problems they throw money at the problem. Seeing it in Boxing right now with the Fury v Joshua fight where the Saudis financially backing the event think they can ignore contractual agreements.

I can't blame City for exploiting that grey area. I bet there is no governance blueprint detailing what decision rights exist from FIFA to UEFA to the FA to the PL/EFL. We all know that the PL just do what they want and flaunt the governance of the FA as they have the money and therefore the power. We can also see the FIFA vs UEFA power struggle going on above the local model.

Perhaps the best thing that can come out of this is our government really understanding who is accountable for what in football and putting things back in the right place. That is the FA in my mind in England. At the top of the chain is consumer spending and it's this stakeholder group that needs representing the most. The consumer has been let down by the game.
