Jack White is definitely a bucket list artist. I saw Iggy a couple of years back. He was in fairly rough shape then but he still gave it socks. Still touring now, which I didn't think was likely.

Enjoyed The Colour of Spring the most tbh. Really good album with several standouts. Got to admit I did find Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock a bit self-indulgent but absolutely appreciated the artistry and attempts to create something original and groundbreaking.

After a brief p-funk hiatus through a couple of Parliament albums (I dare anyone to listen to these and not shake yer arse), delving into the Style Council's catalog next...

Maybe it was because I was listening to it while driving? Maybe it’s the same reason why I can’t get into Radiohead, who I’m sure were inspired by these albums at some point? I generally want to be entertained by music (I did say I appreciated them!) and I wasn’t getting that from these albums. I felt it was very a very inward facing piece of music which I wasn’t connecting with.

I’ll try them again…promise!

For me, those albums are a bit like starting to drink Guinness…at first interesting without necessarily being totally enjoyable; after a while, impossible to live without.

If nothing else I’d recommend you try I Believe In You (inspired by Mark Hollis’s brother’s death through heroin) from Spirit of Eden and New Grass (which is the sound of the first day of Spring put to music) from Laughing Stock again.

Definitely not driving music though!
