We didn't falsify any documents. Scholar even wrote to the fa askig for permission to break rule 34. The fa didn't reply.

That was a rule that placed a cap on dividends, not them giving the players tax free loans from offshore banks

By not declaring bonus payments is in itself a falsification surely??

At the end of the day forest and everton were honest and got points deductions for breaching psr. Chelsea purposefull broke psr and falsified documents and accounts to cover it up. Yet get a token fine.
No sane person could say that is right and fair.
Whatever we did almost 40 years ago has no bearing because psr didn't exist and it was a different governing body making the rules and decisions.

I didnt say anything about it having any bearing, I am just saying we did the same thing to avoid HMRC not PSR.

I dont think it is fair BTW, I think Chelsea dodged one really TBH

This will create a political hot potato IMO. UAE investment in the UK is close to 40bn currently, props up loads of industries, there will be plenty of skullduggery at play here before this is resolved.

They only have one layer of appeal within the Premierleague framework. Then the punishment will be in place. They can go to UK high courts which will take years, but the punishment will not be on hold for those appeals.

They can't appeal to the courts.

Premier league rule w.97 states the decision of the tribunal is final and can't be appealed to the courts.
 
They might try and claim that rule w.97 is illegal in English law.

It's all a mess. Didn't one of the City owners say they'd hire the best lawyers and tie the PL up in court, even if it cost £50 million. Not quite as cooperative as Chelsea.

From the stuff I’ve read today, I think they’re fudged.

They seemed to think that either these charges would go away, that they’d be able to appeal them away, or that some version of FFP wouldn’t exist and the chickens would never come home to roost. And of course that they wouldn’t get hacked.

This is different to the UEFA appeal because the CAS process was time barred and operates a higher legal standard, where as the PL operates more on balance of probabilities. The CAS judgement didn’t actually say City did nothing wrong, they still got fined for failing to comply, and it was more that the investigation was time barred and that emails suggesting money moves a certain way isn’t conclusive proof that it actually did.

If they had irrefutable evidence, they would have delivered it at any point while these charges were being investigated. They don’t have it. I think what has happened is that because they are a sportswashing project, their only option has been to deny, deny, deny. Because to admit to any one single fault of this effectively brings the whole argument crashing down. And this is about the reputation of a country. They could not admit to cheating in any way.

So they hoped the game would change, and that denial and failure to comply would run out the clock. It hasn’t worked and it’s actually contributing to the additional charges. They also kept going on as normal, spending huge amounts of money, signing big players on big wages, because they had to keep up the facade. Again, any admission of cheating would call into question the UAE reputation, make sponsors question their involvement, and give fans of the club and rival fans something to dig into. The strict denial was doing its job by creating the facade, and creating doubt in the case.

I think any appeal will be wrapped up relatively quickly and the punishment will be severe. Far be it from me to praise Chelsea, but there willingness to comply with an investigation has actually created the precedent there and put City in an even worse light. Heavy denial was a high risk bet that this would all fall away, but it’s going to end up making everything worse for them.

It’s the mindset of the Middle Eastern royals. The rules don’t apply to them and they think they can buy their way out of any situation. Usually they are right but sometimes the westerners show a bit of back bone and they have zero clue how to deal with it.

The issue next will be that football and those in and around the game (the fans in general too) have such low standards that somewhere down the line they will sign a massive Netflix deal which will see their rise back up plotted for TV or the like. 100% something I could see happening
