Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

This is a massive step backwards, this will cause untold suffering to thousands of children.

And the PM is wasting his time on beer at football matches, this suggests to me he is more out of touch than Starmer.

It's disgusting.

yeh thats sh1t :(

I really hope Burnham's idea of being allowed to drink in your seat at a PL game doesn't go much further than the idea stage.

Anything to reduce the cocaine usage, and the behaviour that comes with that, should be welcomed

My one hesitation is that it'll likely increase the number of weak bladder idiots who can't stay in their seats for 45 minutes

I think there's quick wins to be had that are separate from medicalisation. In particular I think we could wholesale make the world far more ND friendly, which would remove many barriers and things that cause people distress.

In particular, for starters, there would be:
- Tighter levels and far greater enforcement of noise level limits, particularly focusing on construction and transport. Electrification of buses and lorries and just turning off all tanoys would make a huge difference. Banning buskers with amplification too. You shouldn't have 1/4 of your population needing noise cancelling headphones just to be able to go outdoors.
- An overhaul of lighting in public buildings to remove all harsh and fluorescent style fittings and introduce more daylight or natural style artifical light
- A far greater understanding in schools and the workplace that a big part of the population can't cope with this artificially sedentary life, and more design of these around movement and a flexibility

The adjustments in education are key, that’s where the damage is done, it can be a hostile environment to many.

Adjustments are only funded and made for children who have a diagnosis, and that can take years to conclude as well, burning 4 years in inadequate provision is, well, child cruelty.

Agree. But why keep needing to make adjustments for specific cases, when you could change fundamental things once and make it more appropriate for all. Things like baffling on ceilings to stop echo-y acoustics, more learning through active means (on your feet rather than sat) etc.

I agree, but it would be a fundamental change, you’d have to rip it up and start again.

Infuriating.
Tell you what, in the interim whilst people 'figure out the authenticity' of the diagnosis', let's just give these kids a slap around the head and tell them to 'man up and get on with it like I had to' or some such bolox...

I agree with all of this theoretically AND think this 2 year minimum rubbish is hugely detrimental.

Your observations on lighting are particularly sharp IMO, in fact I think all of them (beyond the buskers, I disagree with you there!) are on point.

For me, another huge major issue is the optical echo of the headline. A whole raft of people will now suddenly think ND-issues are all (essentially) rubbish and conflate them into being 'lefty woke' blah blah blah. You know what I'm saying...those folks have been empowered. Makes me angry and sad.
