Sandro Tonali Official

Don't worry.

We have a lot of good midfield options e.g. Bentancur Tonali Fernandes Gallagher Bergvall Gray.

We can select 2 or 3 of them whilst Tonali is out for a match.

When they begin to tire after an hour, we can select 2 or 3 more to come on and replace them.

RDZ can set up a system that works with the players available.

It's not line we have to play Nethercott and Mabbutt as a 2 man midfield.

We have loads of good options, take a look at the other Prem teams, some of whom are having to play in Europe too.

Played in his actual position first half and had his best game since joining.

Showed everything his good at, driving forward, energy and letting of shots.

Has never been a playmaker and never will be he wants to drive forwards.

Should be him, Gallagher, Bergvall either side of Bentancur or Fernandes.

Any combination where he is one of double pivot is a waste of him. It's like we've signed someone who doesn't actually fit into how the manager wants to play, but bought him anyway.

I keep thinking that RDZ is playing this way due to a lack of fitness and availablity of Maddison and Kulu but as the games stretch in it's becoming a little concerning that he might actually see Fernandes as a 10 and Tonali and Bentancur as a suitable double pivot.

In a 2?

The thing is even if Maddison etc are fit and in the team, he's not particularly suited to playing in a pair. So the same problems will arise. Him, Gallagher and Bergvall are all #8's but we want to play with a #10.

I think inevitably Bentancur will be dropped to make way for Tonali and Fernandes as a pair. I don't think that's balanced either.

I think its what he bought them for though, for better or worse

I don't know if that's especially balanced but on paper at least it seems to suit the player profiles better.

I was talking with a Brighton mate today and he said he doesn't think RDZ will play Maddison as he prefers an AM who is a crazy presser and holds on to the ball well. Which made me immediately think that we aren't going to get an 10 starting until Kulu is fit and available.

I kind of think if we played a lop sided triangle with Fernandes the deepest, with Tonali to left and Kulu to the right but further ahead. That might satisfy both his desires and what we need.

I thought we dominated the game and had a few good chances that we didn’t take.
We didn’t really create good chances
We had some half decent ones
The data and the rewatch I’ve done of the shots shows that (and XG is not always right I know). The keeper saves were quite simple

We created better chances vs pool

I believe the way we play makes people believe we’re dominant but we’re not

Yep

Loads of possession but that isn't an equal to dominating. Jackson (I may have been wrong about him) and Manzambi (who a couple of us might have been right about) looked massively dangerous on the break all game.

65% and a XG of just over 1, thats telling more than anything.

I keep hearing the same stories but they are not always marrying up IMO

I think it’s football that looks nice
But it has no edge, not pace and clearly no threat
People can call out opinion but the data and the goals scored column shows the issues
I like RdZ but I think he is being incredibly stubborn in his team selection to get certain players on the pitch over getting an effective team out there
That’s again, just my opinion
We have players who are great at through balls
But we don’t play therm (Porro player one before getting injured)
We play a lot of balls wide for some weird cross model to Marmoush or Solanke when he is on
We’re playing so many lefties we’re almost the Green Party
It’s all so unbalanced
