The whole waiting for the stars to align for some footballing utopia being the only time we can perform has to stop, the whole feeling sorry for ourselves and excuses too.

We need to pick ourselves up as a team and start getting goals and points.

Talk about rinse and repeat. Fine first 25 minutes where we should have scored then we slowly lose our way and get suckered by a soft goal conceded . Can blame the refereeing decisions but for some reason we seem cursed not to score. If we lose today against this very average Villa side (I`m not saying we look anything other than average) but I really fear for the season. I know we gotta give RDZ and the team time but nothing seems to be going our way atm.

Scoring goals in the Champions bears little relation to scoring consistently in the PL. I would have kept him personally, but I’m not sure he’d have been scoring (m)any nor starting games (although, tbf, I think I’d carry more goal threat than Solanke).

Started really well
Forced Suzuki into some really good reaction saves from clean strikes. Almost too clean, rather than bouncing in off Mings.
Particularly from Savio and Gray, good strikes.
In control, wary of Jackson on the break but forcing lots of corners and good situations.
Bentancur has been brilliant, as usual. So many tackles, interceptions and cleanups.

Naive of Roberston to keep that ball in with VdV off the pitch, very naive. Scuffed shot and Manzambi in the right place... just what Spurs need, a scuffed shot and someone in the right place.

Bit worried about JPVH versus a fast Jackson, particularly on a yellow, potentially bring on Tosin?
We can do this; don't swing crosses onto Mings' forehead, but keep driving onwards. Bring on Maddison and Kudus at some point.

Watching our current attackers shooting straight down the middle of the goal makes my appreciate all the more how elite Kane and Sonny were at not only consistently finding the target but picking a spot where the goalie couldn’t even reach.

We’d need to spend well in excess of £100m to replace either in the current market.

I know Lankshear wasn't proven in PL but when you don't bring a striker on and you have Solanke and Richy not attacking the box, then keep the striker that likes to attack the box.

Solanke has made some good defensive contributions. That's the problem for me. He needs to be attacking the box more and backing the attackers to get the ball in to the box

Hmm I dunno, we had fewer players on the pitch so someone wasn't covered and I'd argue that a CB is a big loss in terms of penalty box action.

We didn't even make that many chances and certainly not good ones by the end of their tenures, they were just fantastic finishers who found the corners like you say.

Solanke scored 29 goals one season in the Championship. Bumping the Lankshear thread every time he scores a goal in the Championship seems pointless to me, I'll wait until he's doing the business in the Premier League before crying about it....

For me that was Van Hecke. There was two Tottenham players marking one Villa player. Manzambe was right in front of Van Hecke

It was just poor defending, it’s the wrong choice Robertson makes. He just needs to let it trickle out.

It doesn’t make him an awful player, I actually think he’s been ok. Us losing isn’t just simply on his mistake.

If we can’t put the ball in the net at the other end then we make every game about the oppo only needing one to beat us. It’s about getting the functioning attack, and I think we’ve made some real errors in judgement whilst putting the attack together.

Solomon looked good in pre-season and has done well in Championship but that doesn’t necessarily translate into EPL.

Having said that, it would be nice to have a 2nd CF in this lopsided injury-prone squad.

If you take away the goal conceded, and delete the PL games already played, it wasn't actually awful. But here we are, not taking chances and conceding first. A chance to change the narrative, but it was also the chance of a fresh start when the first whistle was blown.

It's a lot invested in the wide players when they seem to struggle with end product, and a lot of money into the midfield for Bentancur to look like the best out of the three.

But we'll look a real force once Odobert is back up and running. He is the missing piece, unless we also have any other injuries, in which case they'll be the missing piece. It's also not really fair that other teams look capable of playing football well without spending millions and millions, the fudge do Hull think they are? It's quite arrogant when you think about it...........

Harry Redknapp and 4-4-2 would've actually scored goals.

To be fair I thought Gray was just as busy and was threatening - unlucky not to score soon as he came on....

Van Hecke was on the other Villa player. The problem was Manzambi drifted in from the edge of the box and no one picked him up as he drifted into the LCB space. Van Hecke already had someone so he couldn't go over until it was to late.
