Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

'Collectively' is the problem at the moment. Whether it's the bat brick crazy people we have in some of the top jobs in the world, or masses of just angry, negative, miserable people. That's not a mindset conducive of 'helping'

Personally you can just do what you can.🤷

Yeah. You really can't let us get held back by collective inactivity/harm. Do your bit.

Intents and purposes.

Anyway listen for whatever reason you took me task for this bear in mind we can all reduce our carbon footprint.

We won’t be breaking systems but it is the length of that system to react to the sudden influx of CO2 that is unknown. it won’t be 10,000 years though and that is how long before the next ice age will be due.

Regardless, what we should all be doing is reducing our carbon footprint. Having just done a personal audit I was pretty appalled how much of theyvfootprint is accounted for by food even as a vegetarian - to the extent I cannot immediately accept that exceeds my heating nor travel.

Here is a link if anyone is interested in determining where they stand and how they might reduce their baseline footprint and to think about making reductions rather than just blathering on about other people doing it.

Mate if you think my responses to you calling my post a load of bollox as been taken to task then you have a different definition of that than I. Also, you are still wrong on the ice age thing at 10k years from now too but never mind.

FFS please double check it’s embarrassing.
LOL. Double-check what? The next ice age? It is supposed to be in about 10k years, but it won't be for reasons I explained. I am not going to respond to this any more, as you are getting a bit ignorant, but if you want to listen to an astrophysicist explain to deGrasse Tyson this exact thing, then here you go ->

Yes. This explains the physics for our seasons and the othe longer cycles we have recorded.

Where the codswallop starts is then knowing this and the climatic impacts and then asserting that we have ended the ice age.

Also I should admit i have two university degrees in Earth and planetary sciences and I do also have a youtube account so you might find yourself well matched here.

Good for you. You should probably take a course in manners to add to your list.

What is your timeline for getting back below, say 300ppm of CO2 in the atmosphere, and how will that happen?

I should add I don't have a YouTube account

You posted a youtube link you haven’t watched?

Can’t be bothered really can you and then you abuse me personally.

Not so good that. Nor is starting on me personally. My arguments might be brick, as are yours, but that doesn’t make either of us bad people. I do get irritated with those who overstate the power of humanity over nature where the real power lies.

I don’t claim to know when the existing excess carbon will be sequestered. But powerful mechanisms exist to do just that not least the increased partial pressure leading to increased carbon capture from vegetative growth particularly on land released from permafrost and with oceans mixing faster and deeper due to increased temperatures. This is a extraordinarily complex system. But what i do know is that we do see co2 being removed from the atmosphere after huge volcanic belches, it doesn’t break the system it is the system.

The impact of all this might even overshoot and lead to a more frigid climate just as the cyclically moves inexorably to a colder stage. Which is still an unwelcome impact.

Nonetheless it is obvious we need to reduce carbon emissions right now and protect our carbon sinks such as rainforests as the impacts on us with our short lives is massively immediately detrimental.

Have a nice day.

Melting permafrost releases significantly more carbon than new growth will capture:

Oceans are storing less Carbon as temperature rises according to NASA and Science journal ......
How Temperature Affects Carbon Capture
    • Lower Solubility: Warm water holds less dissolved gas than cold water. As sea surface temperatures rise, carbon dioxide (\(\text{CO}_{2}\)) becomes less soluble, causing the ocean to absorb less from the air and release (outgas) stored \(\text{CO}_{2}\) back into the atmosphere. [1, 2]
    • Reduced Mixing: Warming increases the temperature difference between upper and deeper ocean layers. Melting ice adds fresh water, making surface water lighter. This layering prevents water layers from mixing, trapping carbon at the surface and stopping deep-water circulation from restocking nutrients and carbonates. [1, 2]
    • Weakened Sinks: Recent studies show that record-high sea surface temperatures cause regional outgassing—such as in the Northern Hemisphere and North Atlantic—making the global ocean absorb roughly 10% less carbon than expected during peak heat events. [1, 2]
(quick AI searches have been known to be wrong but both these fit with me knowledge of climate crisis (the need to maintain the permafrost, why adding large herbivores to Siberia would be beneficial by soil compression to slow down thawing, the science behind solubility and mixing).

I should add, apparently, that I have a degree and a masters in environmental stuff but not directly carbon and climate. My Youtube channel isn't related to any of this either

Yes I watched it all a few times. The money shot is about the 12min mark where he contests that there may be no glacial period for this cycle. It is not a fringe opinion either. It is one held by the Potsdam Institute also and others. It is a theory that has been bouncing around for a decade. And mate, I have not been abusing you, just pointing out you have been rude from the off, which you have been. So, lets leave it there. You disagree with these scientists but I dare say we agree on most other things climate-related.

Edit: I might add I have never heard of volcanic eruptions removing CO2 . There is a geoengineering aspect to it because of the sulphur emitted into the atmosphere which adds to the albedo effect, but I'll look into that.

Fair enough. I think calling me ignorant is worse than my saying your claim is gonads but i am sure everyone else is more sick of this spat than we are so yea let’s focus on the common ground.

For the record volcanoes emit co2 as well, they are a source not a sink.

I know. You appear to have said the opposite, though it may have been your phrasing. I didn't want to kick things off again.

Truce.

Do you agree with Rorschach that we have ended the ice age because you should broadcast this on your channel - what is your channel called?

Also it seems you are better placed than I to answer his question relating to the timing of reducing the concentration of co2 below 300ppm or whatever it was, thanks.

Not enough of a climate scientist to answer those geological/epoch questions. More of a environmental and conservation scientist so am more familiar with biological solutions to maintaining carbon sinks and what climate crisis is doing to our oceans - hence my answers to those particular statements only and trying to stay in my lane and not get patronised too much.
