Luka Vuskovic

At present, I think Vuskovic is proving why managers should be directed to deal with the squad they have, and players should be club signings, not manager specific. Its costing us way too much.

Take Vusko out of this, I think you need to back the manager BUT I think you also have to think about club structure. Take RDZ out of it average length of managers in the PL is 800 days, so there needs to be a balance where possible.

My issue came from the fact we invested so much time and effort with him only for him to succeed in any assignment put to him, to then flog him.

None of us are privvy to they whys and what nots, but on the face of it you think "why bother"

Our big money transfers were JPvH, Fernandez, Tonali, Savio and Marmoush.

Which one do we sacrifice (i.e. not bought) to have kept Vuskovic?

It's not as if we could have kept Vuskovic and not bought Senesi. It would have been a van Hecke trade-off.

I was actually gutted to see Vusko and Lanks leave our club, but budget is budget at the end of the day.

Not sure how much time and effort is consumed on sending him on a couple of loans, but the why bother? Is answered with the tens of millions profit made on him. As with Lankshear, and almost Bergvall - All the big clubs have profitable youth setups where they make good money on young players sold to smaller clubs who have barely featured if at all.

Until now we've never really done that well, so at least I'd say we are proving to be rather good at identifying young talents. We can argue about who we would and wouldn't of sold, but the reality is all big clubs release young players who don't fit with the current managers plans - some of which go on to be a big hit elsewhere and others don't. Just the nature of the beast, but at least we are generating decent profits in the process like our rivals do and is important for PSR....

Does the concern now become that we've seemingly paused signing these younger players?

But if we keep backing managers to overhaul the entire squad instead of working with what they have then we will never have a Tottenham squad, it will be the last managers squad and that's their excuse

Time will tell is JPVH is better longer term, thats where I am, as I say we will see

No because there was an imbalance, we needed more experienced players IMO.

And our talented young players Gray/Bergvall can't get in the side as it is. We have those two plus Odobert, Simons, Fernandes, Savio and Tel at least to try and bed who are still on the young side. I'd say it's more even now, and I'm sure in the future we will continue to persue the Bergvall/Vuskovic types....

The concern for me is what youngster would be stupid enough to come? There is no pathway
You mean the pathway where they have got big money moves if not wanted for the first team here?

People have been saying that about Chelsea for years and they continue to hoover up talent, and it will continue to happen here....

I guess the devil's advocate question is how much playing time would Vuskovic had got within our 1 PL point from 3 league games?

He's just played every minute for Brighton and his whoscored average rating over those 3 games was 7.

JPvH's isn't bad at 6.8, whilst VDV's is 6.85.

Not all. I don't care about the big money move. We should be buying players for our team and they should have a pathway to the team. Will the next Archie Gray choose us or Brentford?

Too soon to judge either in fairness.

You might not care about it, but you're claiming young players won't come because there's no pathway - when they can clearly see if you're good enough either they make the squad or sold for big money which will be lucrative for them. Hardly off putting....

I think you have to look deeper at the profile of the squad. It's clear to see in the defensive ranks we only have a single U21, Gray, who is a utility RB but mostly a midfielder. Udogie and Kinsky form the other part of the younger contingent at 23. We have stacked it with older players like Dubravka, Davies, Robbo and Senesi rather than get youngsters in or use the ones we had.

You'd see similar things in the other areas of the pitch.

I think it could go either way under RDZ with promoting youth. It's certainly not a red flag right now though.

Gray and Bergvall both made close to 80 appearances for Spurs, Tel plenty aswell and all featured under RDZ plenty with only Gray the one who can say he's truly performed to any level - Fernandes will obviously make plenty plus Odobert when fit.

I'm sure all young prospective signings will go 'Yeah but you sold Lankshear and Vuskovic though so I don't see a pathway'....
