Aston Villa

Estupinan is broken.
Whoever Villa sign their finances are still a mess, they might be able to circumvent PL rules but fortunately UEFA have a stricter rules that are causing Villa, Chelsea , Saudi Sportswashing Machine and Forest troubles if they want to get into Euro comps.

If Villa are motoring forward with Suzuki I suspect that'll drive Martinez to Saudi (unless a GK gets an injury and Martinez is an emergency signing for someone)

They have been picked apart and the idiot pundits all have them above us still.
They've recruited well too.
Manzambi to replace Rogers
Joao Gomes to replace Tiellermans
Ruggeri to replace Digne
Wan Bissaka
Suzuki

Presumably they're working on a Konsa replacement.
I don't think they are much weaker.

And Watkins may leave.

The recruitment is what you would expect for a top 8 side, not a side people are predicting to finish 5th.

That's the interesting bit - people are still thinking in the past; that doesn't exist anymore.
There are 12-13 teams that can all easily finish somewhere between 5th and below.

The Watkins one is odd (unless it's cashing in) especially with Malen going too - but I suspect we'll see them go for a CB and CF of very good quality.
This looks like a good rebuild summer for Villa, setting up the squad for a few years to come instead of allowing players to become stale.
They've turned a profit and not become weaker on paper. That's what they should be doing - although I suspect keeping Konsa would part of the plan.

My view is they have a very good manager, in a season where there are a lot of unknow quantities in the managerial roles.

But, they have been forced to sell to buy (PSR/SCR), and while the incoming are good, they aren't game changers, they aren't significant upgrades. This is something we have been guilty of for years, and it doesn't translate to improvement. United showed it last season, the front 3 were a massive upgrade on previous season, we are doing it with our midfield this year, Liverpool spent insane money last season and are looking at players like Barcola.

I think the big clubs (financially) are flexing that to keep/improve their status, sides like Villa/Brighton/etc. will fight the good fight, but in the end fall short under this current rule set model.
