Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

Being lied to by public health officials isn’t something that shouldn’t anger only Trump supporters.

Well I am not a yank, so it doesn't anger me.

But surely being lied to by everyone in government during and after Covid should mean the same level of hate to all those who lied, which doesn't seem the case.

Yeh I forgot that anytime somebody does something wrong we should bring up Trump.

The UK had 2 of its leading scientists on the call with Fauci and they believed lad leak was the most likely origin of Covid. Along with 8/9 others of the 12 he met with. Their view was silenced and chalked up as a MAGA conspiracy theory.

Well he seems to be getting a free pass on it, so its a relevant talking point seeing as he was a president during Covid

Not sure anyone was silenced, the Lab leak was always a leading theory here in the UK, at last time of looking a government dept said it was plausable, no one was really silenced as far as I can tell.

People are continuing to hypothesize about it to this day, scientists around the world still cant agree. Who exactly is being silenced??

Seems a US problem not a UK one.

If that’s how you want to frame it that’s fine. But that means Americans are more than entitled to be annoyed by it and it’s not just some MAGA thing which is what’s being suggested.

Another difference between the UK & US is that Americans were explicitly told that the vaccine would prevent you from getting Covid. Fauci originally stated this as well and the diary shows he knew that to be false.

Well not really

We were also told inaccuracies about the vaccine and there was alot of outward strap lines made up to encourage people to take the vaccine. I think the difference here is other than some online discontent most realised with time that things were said to gain traction on Covid, which again, was largely an unknown.

I just think people have either moved on or are more rational here about it TBH

The fact no one is going after Trump for his wrongs and lies makes it seem MAGA motivated, even if its not

Not really following this Fauci hearing but shouldn't all Government officials be blamed over Covid and lost lives. My mother in law was in a care home at the time , the care home shutdown fully two weeks before the Johnson government did the same thing , result nobody in that care home was ever infected with covid, all staff had to do daily tests and stay away if infected and its well known that the people most at risk were the over seventies , think in the UK 80% of covid deaths were over 70, I know two people that died and both were elderly.

The British government failed to act in time , they let the 2020 Cheltenham Festival go ahead and what was the result an outbreak of Covid in Cheltenham a few days later. There was a Covid outbreak in Madrid well publicised in the papers but a Champions League between Liverpool and Atletico was allowed to go ahead, result , you guessed it outbreak in Liverpool a few days.

Seem to remember USA closed down too late , so who is to blame for that , I would say head of Government, result of closing down too late was chaos, lack of body bags and morgue space , NY Times has the story.

The Fish rots from the head. The two people in the United States that bare the most responsibility for Covid are Trump and Fauci.

Trump lost the 2020 election primarily due to his Covid response. He was polling well prior to Covid and lost the swing states by very narrow margains. So there was a consequence.

There is a level of distrust of the healthcare system in the US which is completely justifiable vs UK. Also taking in to account the mistreatment of black people, who were the largest demo to not vaccinate, within the limited government healthcare system avalible.

I think alot of that comes from the fragmented nature of the US. Historically the US is one of the lease trusting countries in the world, domestically or internationally.

I think mistreatment of Black people 100% plays into their resistance to vaccinate, but I think there are cultural aspects at play there. Black communities have historically always ranked terribly at seeking even basic medical help or treatment.

Thought he lost due to Chinese interference and manipulation in the election 🤣 or was that interference the deliberate release of the virus from the lab????

I await the onslaught 😂

I don’t think Chinese interference was ever one of his main accusations to be fair. But he lost AZ, GA & WI by collectively less than 40,000 votes which is 0.003% of voters across those states.

Worth noting those most engaged with the lab leak theory beleive that the initial development of what led to Covid was developed in the United States.

Suggesting that culture plays a role in behaviour.
Why would that cause an onslaught, its absolutely a thing.

Black communities often work harder jobs on less pay meaning they take less time off for ailments, potential costs especially in the US put them off.

Cultural pride comes into it (same with Latino cultures) men especially dont seek medical help till in pain and ignore warning signs.

Im sure balanced people on here realise my point would be rational and not extreme about culture
