Luka Vuskovic

I had an interesting conversation with a Saudi Sportswashing Machine fan a day or two ago. He basically compared what they did with Anderson to what we are proposing with Vuskovic. I.e. they sold their brightest prospect (Anderson) to Forest to fund a 'now'player (Tonali) to push on. They then proceeded to drop 3 league places (not Tonali's fault but the overall churn didn't work), while Anderson's value has only sorn

Tbh that doesn't really surprise me, I don't see what all the fuss is with tonali.
Just like Eze last season all I see is a player that looks good in a mediocre team, and even then not consistently.

I don't think Anderson was pushing for a move away from Saudi Sportswashing Machine, which changes everything.

If Vuskovic isn't going to sign a new deal and we don't think he's ready, selling is the best option with a buy back/ sell on.

No two scenarios are the same anyway. You could name a shedload of 'hot prospects' at the age of around 18, who haven't gone on to live up to the hype. GB naming a player that was let go and now is worth more doesn't mean that happens to every time, football is not an exact science.

Vuskovic is talented, but the way RDZ wants to play football from the back he is not good enough on the ball and is not the full package defensively to make up for that so if we can get a good deal for him it would be good for all parties. It is far from the catastrophe some are portraying it will be if he is sold.....

We are quids in, £50m for him and if he does turn out to be a superstar and gets sold for £100+m we are quids in again, if he turns out to be a dud we have pulled their pants down. Win-win in my opinion.

50mil now (with a sell-on clause) versus a possible 80+mil in the future for a position we are overly stocked at, allowing us to use those funds to strengthen other areas of the team which need addressing.

While I can understand the excitement over a possible generational talent, this sounds like good business for the short and medium-terms, essentially trading a very high-ceiling prospect for top PL ready-now player in JPVH.

Shame to lose him before being able to give him a chance - the club are seemingly going all in on the here and now.
I just dont think we can be bothered with the player or the agent, £50 million for someone that has not played PL football is a great deal, plus we have covered ourselves with a decent sell on and a matching rights

We have basically swapped unproven for proven in JPVH

My worry bead is that JPVH when I’ve seen him isn’t very good defensively
My happiness is that this is all about what the manager wants

If he was not willing to stay here and fight for his place so be it. We got a good price so good luck to him.
Can only imagine the hullabaloo in a year or two if he'd stayed, played well and then his agent starts agitating for a move again. At least at Brighton the clear expectation is that he'll move on in a few seasons.
And maybe, with the matching rights, we might see him back with us. Or get a further chunk of cash if he's kicked on a few levels

...could also be 50m now for a kid that flops in the PL
He has the physicality for this league, no issues. His pace may be his downfall but he’s young enough to learn how to adapt to that.

Shame to see him go without him playing for us but the deal suits all involved. If he’s as good as he is tipped to be then he’s not at Brighton in two years time

I think his agent has pushed him on this. It wasn’t long ago that he was saying he wanted to stay on loan to play with his brother, wasn’t sure if he was ready for the Prem… now suddenly he wants to feel wanted and is upset to not be playing.. I hope for his sake his agent hasn’t pushed him in to an early set back of too much too soon which then sets his promising career on a different trajectory

I agree.

The only thing we know is we are giving the manager what he wants. We don't know any other outcomes.

It's effectively a straight swap...so we can be positive about it but with zero evidence it's a good thing.
